the original starwars trilogy is coming out on dvd pretty soon, after george lucas is done messing up the old movies so that they align with the new trilogy he's making.
a lot of things are being changed like giving the emperor the face of the new palpatine actor, giving all the stormtroopers jango fets voice and replacing most of the creatures and animatronics with (worse looking) cgi effects.

example
as far as i know this is a real frame from the new version of the movie not a photoshop job.
i think it's terrible what he's doing to such classic movies, first he makes a absolutely horrible new trilogy and now he's taking everything that's bad about them and implementing them in the old trilogy.

Actually--the same guy played the emperor Palpatine throughout....so perhaps they are just touching those effects......that said.....Lucas really has ruined these new movies......I can only hope that the final one is full of dark violence and gore......on a bright note.......the actual Clone Wars ( supposed three additional movies inbetween) are said to be a possible addition to the Star Wars canon....with the comic book writers doing the story...so who knows....

I couldn't agree more. I think the old spaceship effects with die-cast models are much more convincing than any cgi bs. I never noticed any "problems" with the old effect, unless you consider looking way more convincing than a blobby cgi character a problem.

If I want to watch a computer generated cartoon, I'll see Finding Nemo again.

This is what I was afraid of. You know the best thind about the Jabba puppet from Jedi.....is is actually there with the actors. You can see it is physically part of the room. I can't stand CGI. I can tell it is just some chump on a blue screen stage every time. It ruins the feel of the picture.

I have bootleg DVD of the original 3, and I think I will be hanging on to them even after the official ones come out.

If you hate all the new stuff being done to the original trilogy then why not buy them on VHS and transfer them to DVD?

Not that i don't agree with you it's just that if you don't like it, don't watch it. We'll always have the originals.

Edited to say that valen beat me to the punch with his comment and made mine sound sort of stupid and repetitive.

Maybe he will get the new Anakin to replace the original dying Vader at the end of Jedi. Wouldn't that be so cool. whatever

Nope. The guy from Empire was different ffrom the guy from Jedi, onward. That's why he's changing it.

To be honest, that kind of change and the Bobba voiced Stormtroopers don't bother me nearly as much as the Greeto thing (worse... edit... ever).

But, two things he does hacks me off more than anything else: he doesn't make the original version available. And he tries to pretend it was "always that way".

Claiming he always wanted to do 6, instead of 9... claiming there was no Revenge of the Jedi. I've ran into people who swear "A New Hope" was on the original title credits. Lucas, for some reason, feels the need to try and rewrite history faster than a Canadian Holcaust denier.

He's hoping in ten years the new generation will always think that's the way the came out.

I've known about the DVD and Archive versions of Star Wars for years. The only thing fans of the original can do is buy those Hong Kong knock offs that were ripped from the Laser Discs. Or just watch them on filthy VHS.

About the CG effects, anyone notice how people like McCallum, Lucas, and John Knoll continue to tell us "You can do anything with CG!” They keep repeating that mantra over and over again either trying to convince themselves or us.

Jeez, you people and your raped childhoods. That term has to end, now. It makes you sound like Harry Knowles. Lucas can rape as much star wars as he wants, it's HIS. If this was his son or something, yeah, I'd flip. But it's nooot. It's Lucas. Of course he sucks, but it's his baby. I have the originals on VHS and I can live with it. I hate CGI, too, but it doesn't keep me from loving Han Solo or Darth Vader. In the grand scope of the trilogy, these are minor cosmetic touch ups.

It's funny because everyone one says how outraged they are about it, but I bet it will still be the highest selling DVD trilogy in history. confused

Instead of watching him fiddle in the wreckage of his few good films, can't we just send him out into the Rainforest to make an Ewoks: The Cartoon: The Movie? Think of the CGI fun he'll have! And no-one will give a flying fuck about the end results...
