Lately, this has been happening quite a bit to me. I see movement out of the corner of my eye. Not just movement, but a figure, and only for a split second, and it's gone as soon as I turn my head. Normally, this doesn't bother me, but it's been happening a lot lately. Anyone else experience this?

That is obviously Patrick Swayze and his Ghost minions. Stop rubbin' one out to Demi Moore flicks and they will go away.

Good lord, it's the hoariest of all science fiction cliches back yet again. I believe A. E. Von Vogt was the first to make use of this idea in mainstream SF (though it goes all the way back into folklore to a point before there WERE folk) - unless you count de Maupasant's THE HORLA (which I don't, as the story is heavily metaphorical, and the Horla may or may not actually exist objectively). The idea's been used about a godzillion times since, the best known of the recent versions being, of course, THE X-FILES (although in the case of TXF, what you kept almost seeing and then losing track of wasn't the alien presence, but the fleeting sense that the various running subplots all really, really, did after all actually fit together in some way that made sense... somehow... somewhere..."out there").

The most likely explanation is simple transient errors of perception involving peripherial vision and microscopic flecks of dus, lint, and other particulate mater - referred to as "floaters" - swimming around in the fluid coating your eye.

A much more intriguing possibility is that a certain percentage of quantum state-vector collapses are less than perfectly smooth, and for a fraction of a second you're getting a glimpse of reality branching off on it's own -- and that shape you see is YOU.

For yet another possibility, I refer you to www.unknowncountry.com, with your host, Whitley Strieber.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go turn on every light in the house now...

i have it a lot, sometimes even in plain sight, i turn around and for a split second i think there's a person or thing right in front of me and then my eyes focus and it just fades away in all the normal shapes that are actually there in my field of vision.
it's quite disturbing sometimes.

i've heard that this is the beginning of some psychic ability. seeing a fleeting figure or knowing what song will come on the radio before it starts playing... stuff like that. supposedly you have a gift but it's not developed or it's just starting to reveal itself.

the always popular shadow people. kids on art bell seem to think they're pretty real. infact one told a story about getting cut up and breaking an arm by a shadow person. aren't they from another dimension or some other reasonable explanation?

I always see these "shadowy figures" outside of my parent's bedroom in their house. Sounds a lot like what you described. eeek
