After last night's episode of the Real World, I feel confident in saying I have reached the end of my rope with Frankie's attention seeking tactics. I swear, if it's not one thing with her, it's a cutter.

Frankie admits to Dave that she kissed Adam, and then gets so upset that he doesn't immediately forgive her that she runs to the bathroom and cuts herself with a kitchen knife, or so she claims. Then she walks out of the bathroom and totally drops the knife on the floor with a huge clatter right in front of Jamie and some other random people, and then, when Jamie brings it up, says that she doesn't want to discuss it.

Jamie is concerned, and tries to get all the ladies together to broach the topic, but Frankie gets incredibly defensive and thinks everyone is judging her, and says she's been cutting herself since she was very young (the actual age she started varies on the telling). In the end, "Jamie" (I think production was behind it) convinces Frankie to see a counselor, and Frankie is magically cured fifteen minutes later!

And then Dr. Drew tells us to go to MTV's website for more information on how to become a cutter...I mean, "how to get help."

I can't take it anymore! Frankie!? Dr. Drew!? Marilyn the mouse!?Somebody give me a knife!

Ugh. Cutters. I guess they now officially have had every type of overly dramatic stereotype on that show now. I think was happier 5 minutes ago when I was under the impression the buried that show long ago.

Remember when the big fad was when posers would pretend to have depression, then accuse people who actually had depression of copying them? I guess now all the personality leeches are going to spontaneously develop borderline personality disorder so they mock people in pain while scraping their forearms with dull butter knives. God I fucking hate MTV.

Haha, I hate to laugh about such a serious subject... but the way she 'accidently' dropped the knife in front of them did make me chuckle at the time, ... I uh... watched it blush

i didn't see it, but i have a friend like that, who is very dramatic and showy about being self destructive, and it isn't even as if she's cutting herself. her idea of 'going overboard' is doing too much (like 1 bump more than a line) cocaine. lame.

As annoying as attention whores can be, attention whoring is something that most people with emotional/psychiatric problems do at one time or another. For instance, a large number of people who threaten or even attempt suicide don't really want to die, they want to be noticed and cared for. Just because someone is kind of obnoxious about their problems doesn't mean they don't really have any.

Thats true Clara.

(I guess my response came more from that "the real world people are so annoying" part of me. They almost seem like fiction, whereas I wouldn't be so callous with people in "real life")

Oh honey...Frankie CLEARLY has major issues. She is just getting on my last nerve with her overt demonstration of them. Especially her accusing robin of being the drama queen. Pot meet kettle. That's it, I am only watching The Swan from here on out.

I just watched it today myself. The thing about cutting is for the most part, people do want attention (i.e. Frankie showing her roomates the cuts when discussing tattooing, or dropping the knife on the floor). It is annoying but it's also part of the problem. Some people don't cut for attention, but some do, either way they are still cutting themselves. Can't say I haven't done it myself...

Adam Carolla would be able to get to the bottom of it... or just make fun of everyone involved.

...this is news, how? SG needs an editorial section with the news section. not bitching, just saying. I've seen more and more news stories that didnt really state a whole lot of facts, and was mostly...well, editorials.

And, i unfortunately have not been watching the Real World lately. I kinda quit around Hawaii, it was all sex from then on, i'm told it's better now, but I just havent gotten back into the swing of watchin it when its on yet. But, yeah, i used to do this junk a few years ago, and it was just for attention.

Just as a question, it seems to me that most cutters are females. I know that there are some males, just most I hear about are of the XX side of the fense. Am I just deluded or is there some reason for it. Perhaps instead of cutting guys just get popped acouple of times in fights?

There is a difference between "news" and "news worthy." I could tell everyone about my day at work and in school. They know nothing of it, so it's technically news. Still, not sure that Acidslug's Day Around Town is front page material.

Just a thought. Another thought is "Overly dramatic person on Real World? Color me shocked!"

I haven't seen the actual episode yet but the clip that is on the promos looks SOO staged! especially because Frankie walks out with her hands behind her back and drops it right in front of jamie.

So what? At some point in their lives or another, most people do stupid shit for attention. It's funny to me that whenever it happens in some kind of public forum or venue, the mob has to jump up and self righteously point fingers, like their pain is more important. You know these things are going to happen on a show like that. Don't like it? Don't watch it.

I would have never admitted to watching the episode but YES! I thought every single thing you did when I saw it. Self mutilation is such a private thing for people who do it for reasons other than to get attention. Besides the fact the fact that for fucks sake the girl is so "look at me, i'm punk rock" she makes me fucking crazy.

In some cases, yeah, it's private. I have, however, known a couple of cutters who did it for years on the down low, and then made it obvious much later on, because they were afraid it was getting out of their control and were afraid to directly tell anyone else. Then there's the massive group of self mutilators that, in many cases, garner much attention. That's us folk with shit in our faces, and ink visibly carved into our skin. Just something to consider. biggrin
