I heard the 'made me what I am today' rhetoric.

It's noble and all, but I don't like what I am today. I would change it, even at the risk of turning into an even worse prat than I already am.

I would have rebelled earlier. Rebelling in college was just annoying. I also should have attempted keeping a boyfriend around for longer than three weeks. On that note, I should have stuck with more things. Like gymnastics and ballet and soccer and swimming. If I had, I might now be tempted to get off the couch a little more often.

I might have allowed myself to socialize with people more, my mom didn't let me go to anyone's house or have people over or go out until high school, and by then I was already the introverted socially retarded person I am today.

Yeah, I can think of a lot of things I would change. Try to do a little better in school, for one thing.

I wouldn't want to change my overall childhood, but I don't remember most of it. Even junior high is pretty vague to me.

Not a thing. As hard as years and years of abuse were, I'd much rather be who I am now than some empty-headed automaton who's quote-unquote "well-adjusted". Besides, you don't get to be this rad without some sacrifices being made.

nope. I had a great childhood. Sure, I was a bad student, almost had to repeat numeroud grades, moved around a lot, dad was violent and hit me and the brother alot (he got over that, we're all reconcileld and happy), and my mother had a serious bout of depression when I was 10. But I look back on my childhood with fondness. I loved the way I grew up. smile

Mostly not. My early childhood (in a country village) was fabulous. A few bad experiences along the way of course but nothing really serious. Although I wish I had known that a career in art, music or theatre was attainable when I left school - careers advice wasn't so enlightened back then.

when i was 12, my dad had the chance to get a job in belgium on a military base for three years. i would have learned dutch and french, and been a military brat. i really regret that we didn't do it, and instead lived in nj.
