Mrs. A down the street used to make lunch on saturdays for me, my buddy elroy and her tyke scot. there was a bit of poverty involved, so the best she could usually do is sugar sandwiches--bread, margarine and a sprinkle of sugar.

but my all-time favorite comfort food as a kid was butter on graham crackers. tonight, i'm sipping coffee and dipping graham animal crackers in a stick of cholesterol, and loving it!

what did you love to eat as a kid?

were you perhaps adopted from an orphanage in wisconsin?

edited to say: in college i worked at a place called milwaukee cheese company, running a forklift in the cooler. you would have married if you'd seen how much cheese i brought home in 5 lb. blocks.

My aunt had a lemon tree growing in her backyard, so I used to walk down the road and pick them like mad. I'm glad my parents stopped me from eating as many as I would have liked. I'm sure I'd have dentures by now if they didn't!

My father would make me shrimp cocktails when I was feeling down. As for any sort of sweets, I never really turned to ice cream or chocolate for comfort.

still give my mom the willies when she sees me each a lemon like an orange. but i know what you mean about acid and teeth. lemons are about as bad as those tasty st. joseph's orange "baby" aspirin we used to chew. pure salicylic acid.

makes my mouth water...I member I use to wrap cheese around apple slices and eat it. It was sooo good. Haven't ate it like that in a few years, but it's sounding good right now.

being from wisconsin, cheese was one of the four major food groups (along with bratwurst, beer and brandy). the tradition in my german family was to put a large but thin slice of sharp cheddar on warm apple pie. apples+cheese=yum!
