Howard Stern fans that tuned in this morning got one hell of an April Fool's prank. Instead of Stern's normal shock jock anctics, listeners instead were treated to a vanilla morning show promising, "All the fun without the filth".
Instead of hearing Stern and his sidekicks open the morning show, New York's WXRK Radio's General Manager Tom Chiusano read a statement saying the show was taken off the air.
"Viacom can no longer bear the weight of the government pressure and its affects on our corporation," he said, adding, "While we're sorry to end the Howard Stern Show, we promise quality programing in the future."
After the message, two other deejays then played about an hour of music interspersed with sterile banter and a promise of a show with "all the fun without the filth."
Listeners across the country called the show to complain. But then Stern and his sidekick Robin Quivers came on the show and revealed it was a hoax.
"We are back for anybody who was stupid enough to fall for that," Stern said.
That actually may be the one funny thing Howard Stern has ever done.

It mighta been funny to me if it wasn't that Stern really did get taken off the air in my city and every other city in my state. I'm still trying to find something decent to listen to on my way to work, I think I'm just gonna get XM finally.
HAHAHAHA....I had my friend call yesterday morning asking is stern off gthe air. I even turned it on and I said oh its probably april fool's day joke and i was right. But i posted this article in my journal yesterday.
The Kevin & Bean show in Los Angeles did the same thing but they let it play out for the whole day. They're fairly famous for their April 1st jokes; a couple years back they staged this in studio brawl with a bogus Thom Yorke.
