nope. I only live like 4 miles from a big city (where I work) and my family never had a car when I was a kid.

loads of my friends have learnt but besides how much it costs them all I ever hear is how much freedom it gives them... ...which is kind of weird as whenever i'm in the car with them or hear them talking about driving it's all; I can't believe the traffic, i can't believe the asshat drivers, i can't aford to go out cuase I had to have my car repaird, i have to go and see soandso and soandso etc

blah blah blah

I live in the UK. our public transport sucks but on the other hand I guess we never have to travel that far.

I don't see logically that the freedom thing makes sense. All my transport costs about £50 a month. So I don't feel any need to drive.

I also have a real issue with people justifying their 'right' to drive as an instance of freedom - when them doing so takes away many other peoples rights, in many many ways.

eeek that was a rant wasn't it??!!

No. Because I tried to get my license at 17, and on my driving test drove through a red light that is ONLY on when people are crossing. ARRR!!!

Didn't kill anybody, thank god, but it took me a while to recover. Currently taking lessons again now though. oink

I don't drive because I have no car to drive, and can't afford getting one or owning one. Plus, I live surrounded by 4 different bus lines, and I do a lot of things in Manhattan; you don't need a car in Manhattan.

no, i don't even have my license. i got my permit, completed driver's ed and all that but then just..never took the final test. i hate driving, it scares the crap out of me. if i did drive, there'd be nowhere to park here anyways. trains and bikes suit me fine for right now, but i realize that when i have a family i'll probably have to drive and get a car. still, the amount of hell i get from my family and friends about this is unnerving.

Yup.

I didn't have a car for six months last year, and I was INSANE. I hated being locked into the bus schedule and having to depend on friends for trips to the grocery store. I'll happily pay for gas/repairs/insurance if it means being able to pick up and go wherever I want whenever I want.

That is my excuse.
