As I understand it they are claiming ignorance, the majority of them saying that they thought what they were voting against was foreign tradition which may constitute a violation of civil rights in America.

Now, this isn't meant to excuse their actions, just clarify them. If anything it exposes them to even further ridicule if what they claim is true. If I don't thoroughly read something before speaking out on it, the least I can expect is to be ignored. These people supposedly come from a higher level of responsibility, therefore we should hold them to a higher standard accordingly.

Amendment sponsor Rep. Bill Heath, R-Bremen, was slack-jawed when told after the vote that some adults seek the piercings.

"What? I've never seen such a thing," Heath said.

Just a theory for those who think this is a sexist thing... I'm betting the Mr. Heath couldn't even *conceive* of a male intentionally piercing his willy... so why would a woman intentionally do it? It must be some horrible form of chastity device! wink

Im think we need to consider the main thing that needs to be said here:
IF PIERCING CLITS IS OUTLAWED THEN ONLY OUTLAWS WILL HAVE PIERCED CLITS!
Actually I more shouted than said.
And I need to mention. I heart Krash. love

erm.
well.
isn't oral and anal sex still illegal in some states?
so laws don't matter really.

i'm equally appalled with the sexism/ignorance of this bill but it's been said on the first two pages already. doesn't he understand that piercing is a voluntary act of body modification and it has no connection to the forced genital mutiliation that occurs in some societies?

The bill has probably already been dealt with, but honestly, wouldn't "forced genital mutilation" be illegal even without a law specifically banning it? Isn't forced mutilation illegal in general? I would think that cutting off parts of your 10-year-old daughter's hoo hoo without a legit medical reason would be child abuse and sexual assault, at the very least. Why do they need another law telling adults what they can't do with their bodies?

Come on, folks, this isn't rocket science.

Many people claim medical reasons for male circumcision. FGM serves no medical purpose.

I'm not saying male circumcision is right or wrong, but there are men who elect to have it during adolescence or adulthood for medical reasons. There is never a medical reason to cut off your daughter's clit (well, unless there's a tumor or something that can't be removed otherwise, but I assume the bill would cover such a situation).

Okay, the comment I originally had here would be funny to like, one other person, and I doubt he'd ever see this thread. It was a joke about assuming making an ass out of two different things. It was stupid. It's gone.

It just goes to show that the people who don't want you to do something spend more time thinking about what you might do than you do. surreal

The primary reason for circumcision is to prevent balanitis, an inflammation of the penis due to crud accumulating under the foreskin.

In all but the most extreme and rare cases, this is a result of forgetting to wash the damn thing. Otherwise, circumcision is medical only in the case of very rare infections and the like.

In other news, this makes me want to travel to Georgia and get a PA.

Since when does Georgia have a severe FGM problem? Is that some part of the native culture of Georgia that I hadn't heard about? What the fuck was the actual purpose of this bill?

I've heard bad stories about soldiers who were in the Western Desert in 1941. Sand under the foreskin... :shudders:
