Rob Zombie is not one to rest on his laurels. Indeed, his rate of productivity in the realm of music and film means he’s one of the most interviewed artists on SuicideGirls – this being his sixth one-on-one conversation with SG.
Mondo Sex Head, a collection of Zombie classics remixed and reinvented by the likes of Photek, Big Black Delta and Ki:Theory, has just been released, and a new studio album is currently in the works. In the live arena, Zombie recently signed on to co-headline with...
and this is why rob zombie continues to be one of my favourite musicians. i totally understand what he's saying when talking about listening to music and the sense of community and energy you get from seeing a gig or listening or watching something live.
I really hope to catch one of those Zombie/Manson shows.
And I also despise people filming concerts with their phones. It's like people are uncomfortable experiencing anything nowadays without their phones being involved somehow.
so much is changing & so little for the better.i took a ton of pix @ a NIN show once and after i realized how much of the experience i missed out on. i wish i could go back to being a teen @ a concert my only concern being that i have the best time imaginable.
I also can't stand when people use their crappy phones & then post their videos with awful sound on Youtube, then probably do it again when they know it's terrible. If it's an HD camera with awesome sound great. The best example is "NIN - The Downward Spiral Live" on Youtube. The venue wanted to charge NIN a ridiculous amount to make a live video. Instead NIN fans made their own multi-camera video of the show! I can get behind that kind of subversion of greedy promoters. It only has 1,581 Views. "Gangnam Style" has about 380,000,000. There's no accounting for taste.
Great point about not experiencing the actual moment when you are at an event. But Mr Zombie please stick with music and stop making movies. You are a terrible director, or go to film school then make movies again.
"Truthfully, I wasn’t really loving any of it until one night when I could clear my head. I was just driving in LA at night and the lights were zooming by, and I listened to the record and that’s when I got into it. Sometimes I find that as life goes on, it’s cluttering your mind all the time. It’s hard to just focus on the music…Most of the time people are listening to music and fussing around on their phone or the computer, they’re always doing something else. It’s really only in the car that I find that I can focus on it. There’s this zen thing, driving and listening to music." - Rob Zombie
Great interview. I really cut back on going to live shows in the last few years bc of some of the things you two spoke about. The ability and desire to record EVERY SINGLE moment of our lives is disconnecting us with the moments we're trying to capture.
