When Blixa Bargeld of Einstürzende Neubauten looks you directly in the eye and says the word existence it’s kind of like when the abyss looks into you. Most of the words that the man who created industrial music says can cut right to your soul. A flippant comment from him can make you like a first grader about to be run over by a Mack truck. He’s unpredictable, dangerously sexy to all genders and believe it or not has a great sense of humor. When he talks about how this is Einstürzende Neubauten’s...

I hope this opening paragraph is a parody of the musician-as-ubermensch interview style...

As for creating industrial music... Throbbing Gristle, anyone?

Yeah, i think Einstürzende is more advant-industrial. Prog-industrial, maybe, with all the innovations, and odd time signatures. They go beyond the bounds of "industrial" certainly. Though i couldnt say who started it, it's not my type of music.. Either way, this is one of my new favorite interviews.

I never understood the fuss over Blixa until I saw him onstage and literally went weak at the knees!

When he sang the Kylie Minogue part in 'Where the Wild Roses Grow' I thought I was going to faint!

He sounds best on recordings.
He smokes too much on stage though- no wonder the US tour is his 'first and last'.
Great close!

You can learn a lot seeing him in the flesh.

Du bist das Licht der Welt
mit dem wir uns vermischen
bist nicht zu unterscheuden - wer...Wer?
Dann haben wir entschieden
sind entschieden
leicht entflammbar und brisant
unstillbar wenn entbrannt
fuer Koenig Feurio!

You are the light of the world
Within which we mix ourselves
Until one cannot determine - who...Who?
Then we have determined
Are determined
Easily enflamed and explosive
Insatiable when aroused
For King Feurio!

Blixa is a musica genius through and through. I'm the first to admitt that the only reason I went to my 1st Nick Cave show was to see him perform even if he wasn't singing. Nothing beats the feeling you get after seeing Einsturzende Neubauten live. It's truly a cerebral and internal experience...

His band is a top 20 in my permanent list of music that infleuenced my life...
