Showing the play of more cerebral and longer games is tricky, but I believe a few lend themselves to it, with the help of a commentator for exposition. The same way Starcraft games are explained to the audience, I think it could be done here, with the camera drawing attention to the parts of the game the players are thinking about while the commenter sets the stage for the audience to understand the tension.
The more I think about it, the more I want to see Celebrity Diplomacy. Zip through a few seasons, summarizing what folks are doing, to leave time to show a few negotiations in realtime to really appreciate the betrayals.
