i have an emperor, i've had him for about 2 and a half months and i hardly see him eat...now i know he does, i put super worms in his cage but about a quarter of them end up dying on their own and he doesn't eat anything already dead but the ants don't care about that and come running. i also have this like gelitan stuff in place of water so he doesn't drown.
should i try and feed him something different, stop with the live prey and just give him the gelitan stuff, or just not act so paranoid?
thanks!
i almost got an emperor who was pregnant, but i wasn't prepared to deal with a brood and figured that i'd rather get a male than watch her eat all of her childrens.
and if you put a black light on them, they glow neon green....no lie
thank you very much for the advice, i'll have to try crickets ^___^
I once had a Japanese Sick Bug (the ones that camoflouge like sticks) that had a litter. It became the most traumatizing moment in my young life when I was forced to flush them all.
Luckily we got to keep the Silk Worms when the eggs hatched.
I know if you pour a ring of lighter fluid around them and set it ablaze they'll kill themselves seeing no way out. Actually I just heard that from some dude. Probably not even true, but I had to say something right? Yep I just looked it up. Pure bullshit
Unlike a dog a scorpion will not eat unless it needs it. The suggestion to try crickets is a good one. However, only put them in a few at a time and don't leave live ones in for more than 24 hrs. This is for several reasons the most improtant of which is that the crickets believe it or not can hurt the scorpion. The second is that if they grow wings they get loud as shit. Also to help stimulate his appetite make sure he is in a warm environment, I suggest a low wattage heat lamp or under tank heater. Also since you use the gel water I suggest a light misting with plain old water from a spray bottle 1-2 times a day. Remember these are tropical arachnids. Hope this helps.
I feed mine crickets. It either snags them right off (hungry) or leaves them (not hungry). Like the previous post says, they only eat if they are hungry.
Yes, mist is a good idea. Emperor scorpions ARE NOT desert scorpions. They live in moist climates.
As far as your concern about drowning... If you use a damp paper towel, they still can get their water. Same with tarantulas. Just an idea.
Also, leaving crickets in the cage may cause an annoyance for the poor little guy.. Seriously, he may change his behavior if you do so. By this I mean it might not eat and so on.
I know it's a typo, but I got this image of a little red bug with a green face, googly eyes and big puffy cheeks getting ready to throw up and laughed pretty good.
