Hey, does anyone else have tinnitus? You know, that ringing in you ear that won't go away. I've a pretty mild form of it for some time now, but in the past week or so it's gotten really bad. Since I have no health coverage seeing a doctor is out, so I figured where else should I turn to for advice than SG. Anyway, I up'd my zinc, niacin and ginko intake, I was wondering if anyone had other suggestions.

I've had it since I was a kid.

I know exactly how you feel. Never being able to hear silence. Mine goes in stages. Sometimes I can barely notice it and other times it's so bad I can't sleep. I have health insurance, but I was under the impression that there's no treatment for it.

The only treatment I've ever used is sleeping with the tv or radio on to drown out the ringing.

Tinnitus Treatment Options

I suffer from a mild form as well but I haven't gone through any measures to try to treat it. I just constantly surround myself with noise so that I can't hear it as much. frown

I have tinnitus, and it's horrible. It's only really noticeable when it's really quiet, and then at that point, it's pretty unbearable. Guess I wasn't as cool as I thought in high school playing gigs and practicing without earplus. tonguetongue

On that note, there is a sleep center place by my house that apparantly has a process to alleviate tinnitus. I'm not sure the process or what the success rate is, but that gives me some hope. My drummer told me about the advertisement Thursday at band practice. I'm planning on looking into it.

My grandad has it.

He says having tinnitus is like having someone pinch your arm, lightly, and never let go. You don't notice it most of the time, but whenever you have a quiet moment to yourself, there it is.

And, occasionally, they twist it. For a few seconds or a few minutes.

Best of all: the pinch very gradually gets harder, and harder, and harder.

What I want to know is: what exactly doesn it sound like? Is it exactly like the ringing in your ears after a concert, or more muffled?

Having it has turned me into a Zen master.

Having it has turned me into a Djinn bastard.

It will become tolerable. Take this as a cue to go get yourself some comfortable earplugs.

I didn't check out the links yet but I've noticed when I'm doing too much caffiene it becomes almost unbarable. I have also noticed when I was talking on the phone for several hours a day (my then bf was living in Texas) I was having constant ringing in my ears.

I know it also can be stress related, in the past month I broke up with my girlfriend and fried the motor in my van, while not having enough $ to take my cat to the vet. I've also been taking a lot of cafine lately, I guess I'll have to cut back on that and switch to meth.

Suppossedly its different for everyone. Mine is a really high pitched ringing, sort of a cross between feedback and a tuning fork. If I was still into No Wave music, it might be kind of cool. Too bad I'm not.

Well, I get a kinda whistling/ringing sound in my left ear every now and again, but no real trigger factors, and it always fades out after a few moments. Then again, I can consciously ignore some sounds, so maybe it's always there and I just ignore it blackeyed

Best way I can describe it is just like the ringing in your ears after a loud concert, but minus the muddy muffled sound. So you can still hear, but you always have that annoying ringing.

I don't know... really the best way I can explain it.

Yeah, earplugs work.

I dated a girl who was incredibly impatient with my almost deafness. It pissed me off to no end everytime she got pissed that I didn't hear her over the kinda ring in my ear.

Going to loud ass shows for 12 years and just deciding to use ear plugs.

Damage done.
