The process of restoring "David", Michelangelo's well known statue of the Biblical king, is almost halfway done. But restoration experts are finding a bit of a problem that emerged during restoration: weak ankles that support six tons of weight.
Aside from this, the restoration team is also using a restoration technique that could harm the surface of the statue. One expert has already quit.
"Working in an already poisoned climate wasn't ideal, but because of my conviction that the method I had to work with was the right one, I had no doubt," restorer Cinzia Parnigoni said about taking internationally respected restorer, Agnese Parronchi's place.
There is also plans for engineers to find a similar block of marble "to run tests for any future plans in shoring up the weak ankles."
