Kind of what I've been thinking all goddamn day.

why is everyone trying to turn today into a contest about which deaths are more important? stop trying to find meaning in judging the worth of others.

Hey, we're not the ones judging anyone's worth- we're just wondering why one person's death matters more than multiple deaths. The exchange rate seems to be off.

Okay, maybe we are judging the worth of others a bit. Is it so wrong to think of a celebrity as being on equal footing with someone else who died the same day?

Perspective- it's a funny thing.

i think the deaths in Norway have been covered in the media just as much, if not more. i think it's common sense that a huge celebrity's death is going to be widely covered, mainly because it's yet another way to make money for tabloids and networks to get ratings. it doesn't mean her death was more or less important than say someone who passed in the recent Norway tragedy or anyone else for that matter. i just don't get why every time a celebrity passes away someone has to try to measure other deaths of civilians so to speak against them and act like people should feel guilty for paying their respects?

Honestly, I couldnt care less. There's hundreds of children dying in Somalia EVERY DAY. Oh, and I believe it was her choice to be consumed by drugs and alcohol, those kids don't have a choice....

To be honest, her death has very little importance for me, however, I do feel for her family and loved ones, as I would for anyone that has lost someone. That being said, all day yesterday, it seems that other events were overshadowed by her passing. I'm just making a statement about how quickly our focus shifts. Take from that whatever you like.

This quote from Amy's mother from an interview back in 2008 is just tragic:

'I've known for a long time that my daughter has problems...I realise my daughter could be dead within the year. We're watching her kill herself, slowly.

'I've already come to terms with her dead. I've steeled myself to ask her what ground she wants to be buried in, which cemetery. Because the drugs will get her if she stays on this road.

'I look at Heath Ledger and Britney. She's on their path. It's like watching a car crash - this person throwing all these gifts away.'

Didn't Britney Murphy die in 2009?

That was Brittany... She probably meant Britney Spears.

The Topic Was Based On Amy !!!! .... I Agree With Dot .... Amy Was Loved By Many And Her Death May Not Be Important To Some People, But Please Keep Respect On Others Feelings And Greiving !!!! Those Other Countries And Deaths Are Duelly Noted And Should Be Dicussed In Another Thread .... R.I.P. Amy !!!!

This is one of those sad situations you could see coming from miles away, but could only watch as it unfolded. I loved her voice and thought she was very talented.. I also think fame may have accelerated the problems she already had in place. It's a shame it had to be this way.

God, I'm sick of stuff like this. It doesn't make you cooler or more enlightened or more socially responsible or anything to, in response to people making note of a celebrity death, get your nose in the air and pontificate on the fact that [i[other people die, too, you know, gosh. Gosh, indeed. We know that. The two have nothing whatsoever to do with one another. If you actually care so much about kids in Somalia and would rather people comment on that and not on Amy Winehouse, start a damned thread on kids in Somalia or something.
