Alright now...
I'm not the most loyal sportsfan. Infact, I'm not really too much of a sportsfan at all anymore. But I have had (for many years) a deep love for the now defunct NHL team the QUEBEC NORDIQUES. Mats Sundin, Joe Sakic, Owen NOlan...all on the same line. That team was the shit, when I look back at my youth I see that little red and blue insignia everywhere (I even have an old nords jersey). My question for all of you is this...

is there a now defunct team you used to love? who were they?

all i want to know is when are the hartford wailers coming back? haha.

i got to stay loyal to my kings though. even though i'm from san diego the kings are my team. but they aren't defunct so guess that don't count.

I used to be a northstars fan, but only as a second to the Bruins.

Stick with the original 6, they'll never go defunct.

OK, I'm going to show my sports geekiness here ..

The Nordiques are now the Avalanche.
The North Stars are now the Stars.
The Rockies are now the Devils.

Who are the Whalers? The Coyotes? Is that right?

Oh, and I also remember the California Golden Seals (NHL).

And to answer the original question honestly: The Philadelphia Stars of the USFL.

They kicked ass.

If I remember correctly they won one USFL Championship while based here, and then two more when they were inexplicably relocated to Baltimore.

The first NHL game I went to was a Capitals-Nordiques game. It was in the record books, actually, for points by a rookie, since the Stastny brothers (Anton, Pierre, and Marian) went completely bugfuck on the Caps that night, 11 to 7. Anton and Pierre each had eight points. For that one night, they were truly the Hanson brothers, minus the foil.
One team I miss was right here in town, the Alexandria Dukes, a Pirates affiliate. I went to a double-header once where they won on some home runs and got an autograph from one of the home-run hitters: "Roberto Bonilla." Sure, he was an asshole to reporters, but I cut him some slack, as he was pretty nice to me.

Hey, what's a "nordique"? (I know, I know, "Google it")

The New Jersey Generals from the now defunct USFL.

Herschel Walker played for New Jersey long before he starred in Philly. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it, Crispy : tongue

And, though they were well before my time....The St. Louis Browns have to be the most entertaining franchise in baseball history.

They had Edie Gaedel, a pinch hitter who stood a whopping 3'7" tall

Pete Grey, the outfielder with one arm.

And Dummy Taylor....the Deaf-mute pitcher.

I don't think Herschel ever really "starred" here ... his best years were in Minnesota and Dallas.

But how 'bout them Memphis Showboats and that #92 Reggie White?

I never could figure out how Hartford CT could support a major league franchise in ANY sport, given its relative proximity to Boston and New York. Obviously we saw what happened.

It's shit like this that makes the nearby city of Worcester MA think it could be the next Paris.

What about the Atlanta Flames, the Kansas City Scouts or the Cleveland Barons of the NHL .

Since the Califfornia Golden Seals, who had Reggie Leach that went on to win the Con Smythe trophy with the Flyers in 1976, already made the list
