I am a doctoral student in psychology and I am doing my dissertation on women's experiences with sexually explicit materials. Scholarly research has virtually ignored that women, not just men, actively enjoy sexually explicit materials (films, photos, books, etc.). So I want women's voices to be heard! If you are a woman who is 18 years or older, you currently live in the US, and you currently use sexually explicit materials, I would be forever grateful if you would complete my 20-30 minute online survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/womens_experiences. I hope to publish my results in a scholarly journal and maybe even write a book someday on what you all have to say. Please ask me any questions you have. THANK YOU!
I am drunk and taking this survey, and have decided to humor its entirely hetero-centric and monogamy-is-the-norm-anything-else-is-deviant worldview (although it's making a very good but very obvious effort to be inclusive, indicating that the survey writer has obviously had very, very little experience with the broad spectrum of human sexuality and has quite possibly learned everything they know from porn) and I am offended by this question:
49. To what extent do you believe sexually explicit materials contribute to the oppression of women?
Not at all
Slightly contribute
Somewhat contribute
Definitely contribute
They are the primary means of women's subjugation
Because seriously, wtf, that's fucking dissertation material. You can't give a yes or no answer to any of that. Also talk about a fucking loaded question.
Also, I am offended by the lack of things like "actual totally amateur porn" as options of things that turn you on, because, omg, hot.
Jesus, this entire survey is full of questions that have a lot of grayscale answers or loaded answers and not just a little heteronormative. Also, the vast majority of this "survey" has not a lot to do with female response to erotica, demonstrates a limited understanding of sexuality in general, and judging by the fact that the purported author posted this on an outstandingly-female-heavy erotica site that has countercultural leanings... I'd say that by soliciting responses on suicidegirls.com, the entire outcome is skewed from the outset.
Hopefully, your survey is actually used to help you masturbate, because I really hope this is never used for research stats.
Way to go, undergrad. At least, I hope you're an undergrad, because I would fucking weep to think this survey was actually thought up and executed by a grad student or doctoral candidate.
Being a woman who majored in English with a dual minor in Womens Studies and Studio Art and having had a conscious life through the 80s, 90s and 00s.. Here's my theory, which has been reinforced by this survey:
Current human female sexuality in the popular context has been reduced to Bettie Page or Bettie Draper, but with the IQ and social consciousness of Bettie Rubble, and we're taking surveys about whether straight chicks get off to gay porn?
It'll drive you to drink. Seriously. All sexuality surveys aside, I'm fucking glad I live in Los Angeles now, even if I am an over-30 ancient fuck.

I should go to bed now, shouldn't I?
AND ALL THE SPIRITUALITY QUESTIONS WERE BACK TO FRONT.
Left side positive, right side negative.
Right side positive, left side negative.

I appreciate your honest feedback, that is the entire point of doing this research. Scales instead of yes/no question responses are the norm in survey research and allow for the complexity of human responses to issues, while still allowing for clear yes/no responses (i.e., not at all) if that is how someone feels. I have the sense that you believe you know what my personal answers to the questions would be, such as does porn contribute to the degradation of women. The point is to get women's real responses to this issue, since society has pushed this viewpoint in various ways. I also left "Other" spaces on as many of the questions I could, so women could write in types of material they enjoy that were not listed, such as real amateur porn. That's the kind of information I am looking for. And you are right that using only members of suicide girls would lead to a very biased study, but I am seeking participants in several places, online and off. I am sorry that my survey was so offensive to you, that was the opposite of my intention. I would greatly appreciate more detailed feedback on how I cold make the survey less hetero-normative and more sexually-knowledgeable.
Along with everything Shal pointed out, you didn't think to warn people taking the survey that they'd suddenly be asked about traumatic sexual experiences? And then be given a box in which to talk about said experiences in detail? I don't know about other women but without any proof at all that you're a professional I would NOT feel comfortable telling you ANYTHING about my sex life.
