Due to overwhelming political pressure, the Food And Drug Administration (FDA) has postponed their decision on whether or not to allow the over-the-counter sale of the pregnancy preventing, "Morning-After Pill".
Claiming they need more time to evaluate, the official decision is expected to be delayed until May. The morning-after pill is a higher dose of regular hormonal contraception, and if used within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse, it can decrease the chance of pregnancy by nearly ninety percent. Experts predict that if the pill is approved it could possibly prevent over three million unwanted pregnancies a year. Those who oppose the pill's FDA approval claim that it could cause more unprotected sex in teens, therefore increasing the number of sexually transmitted diseases.
