In a transparent effort to tie a forum link to my co-edited Acidemic Film Journal, #6: Sex and the French issue, now online, I submit the above mathematical hypothesis to ask the auteur opinion. I mean of course films, French films vs. American, stylization and fetishization of guns and naturalistic depiction of sex in French films, vs. a kind of privileging and glamorizing of sex and natural depiction of violence in American films.

Who can argue our nations are different and have much to teach other? Americans would be less repressed if we weren’t convinced that if we have sex with just anyone we’ll never one day get our prince dull and charming or button cute Jennifer Anniston or Drew Barrymore?

They’re not coming. That’s the French realization. Why? Cuz they have theory!

I think it all stems from not having enough to rebel against on their end. Wine at dinner as a child creates a ‘tolerance training’ so that French people grow up not seeing alcohol as ‘punk rock’ for lack of a better expression.

Contributors this issue include Kim Morgan (sunset gun), Todd McGowan (The Impossible David Lynch), and Ethan Spigland (former Malcom Mclaren artistic collaborator and Deleuzian). Far out!
