I love the idea of this. The plot of the games barely made sense for a fighting game, much less a series of movies. Making it real without making it into Street Fighter sounds awesome.
Granted it will still be a ridiculous action movie, but I'm intrigued. Half-assed video game and comic book adaptations are numerous and boring. This looks different.

Call me an MK purist, but I'm not sure if I'm 100% sold on this.
Indeed. I don't like pissing on anyone's parade, but the storytelling here leaves me cold.
Two complaints: The build-up of the bad guys just isn't believable, and further, it's pointless. So they all look like freaks and they kill people. Whoop.
Thing the second, it labors over all the little nods to the fans and reveals for so long that I was left going, "Yeah, I get it. Next. Please, next. Already, get on with it." Right down to the closing line: "The name is Scorpion". Yeah, we all figured that out minutes ago. And that's your big shocker to close on? Failtastic.
P.S. What's with the name. Re-birth? Birth? This is MORTAL KOMBAT. Moral! Kombat! This is heads getting torn off oand hearts being ripped out. Leave the miracle of birth out of it.

It's not perfect--definitely a concept short rather than a trailer. But: solid acting, nice effects, brutal choreography (even if the fight does go on and on), and and interesting and complete retelling of the MK universe. That last part is what I like about it most, because it derives from the original material without abandoning it. A lot of adaptions, especially the ones that take liberties with the original material, are in-name-only, an excuse to slap a popular name on a product. This seems to me to be the opposite of that.
Two hours of dark, gritty, R-rated, brutal, bloody, Mortal Kombat slayings with realistic overtones that any of the MK games would be jealous of.. Awesome.
I'm excited about this, I hope they do remake it. Looks like they might actually do it in a more interesting way than the last one
Plus I a guilty fan of MK, it was my first fighting game hehe.
