Ok, I gather that most people feel the intelligence level has dropped as of late, so in an effort to bring the IQs up I think everyone should post an interesting fact. Could be about science, history anything of intellectually thought provoking.

My fact
Micro-organisms have been brought back to life after being frozen in perma-frost for three million years.

*I know this isn't the most amazing thing in the history of mankind, but hey gotta start somewhere*

It's also true that the risk of being struck by falling airplane parts or being bitten by a pig is higher than being killed in a plane crash.

Wow, grammar problems. Sorry.

7 is closer to its atomic mass. 3 is its atomic number.

Sharks and rays are the only animals known to man that don't get cancer. Scientists believe this has something to do with the fact that they don't have bones, but cartilage.

A British medical journal called The Practitioner has determined that bird watching can be hazardous to one's health. They have officially designated bird watching a hazardous activity, using the example of the death of a bird watcher who became so wrapped up in watching a particular bird that he failed to notice his potentially dangerous surroundings and was eaten by a crocodile.

I love this thread. smile

The term "honeymoon" originated back in medieval days. The couple would receive a supply of mead, made with honey, that would last approximately one month.

Honey is an aphrodisiac, so the hope was that the couple would basically get drunk and screw every night. Since it was enough mead to last a moon cycle, it held reason that the new bride would get pregnant quite soon after the marriage.

Hence, this became known as the "honey moon". smile

Whoops, that was my bad. I totally meant to write mass. Unfortunately, I was not paying attention.

Every single time I read that, or hear that (trust me, when people get a reaction from saying something, they'll say it over and over and over) I start gagging horribly. I sleep with a blanket over my head now. Spiders can't get past blankets. So I'm safe. *puts fingers in ears* Lalalalalalalalalalala...
