Remember the good old days when we teens just exchanged polaroids?

Polaroids?! In my day we had to stand for an hour while the sunlight burned our image onto a glass plate, then we had to hire a pony express rider to carry the picture across country for us, and by-gum it was good enough for us!

sorry, times are changing. most kids have them. how about simply monitoring our kid's phone use? i think if a parent says to a teen, hey - i'm checking your phone use- (every phone bill lists messages sent/received) and follows through, this would shortly be a non issue. my kid's had a cell phone since he was 7 years old. his cell is a very useful communication tool for our family. he's now 12, and we're not allowing texting yet.

Just because other parents are idiots....doesn't make it right. KIDS DON'T NEED CELL PHONES. It's that simple.

Just found out a 14 year old daughter of a friend of the family's sent at least one topless picture to someone. It's a pretty disturbing prospect. But I'm more worried about her need to reach out to people in this way and her lack of sense than I am the technology itself.

yea dude. the only way i talk to my daughter when i am on the road or she is at her mother's house is with her having a cell phone.

While in your little world it may be "that simple" it really isn't. My only other option is to have a communication device installed into her skull, and child services frowns on that.

I may see more angles to it now, but when I was a 14 year old boy, I would've thought this sexting was the coolest shit ever. I had to sneak peeks at my dad's Playboys. Kids these days are spoiled!

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

...But then, I was a total outcast nerd when I was 14, so guess no one would have been sexting me for at least a couple years.

mankind survived thousands of years without them. We even got through the Great Depression & WWII without cell phones.

Kids have always been dumb, it's just easier to be dumb now.

10 years ago (when I was 17, yikes), I had a boyfriend who was going on tour, we couldn't picture text (I don't even think my nokia could text text), so since I couldn't text my boyfriend pictures of my tits, I took pictures with my camera, put them in an album, gave them to him, and guess what, *gasp* he showed his friends! You don't need a cell phone picture to have your tits flashed all over by someone.

However, I definitely don't think it's smart for underage kids to be texting pics of their naughty bits all around. But you have to know that it's hard to fully appreciate the consequences of your actions when you're 16 and in love for the first time, or just trying to fit in, or get attention from a guy.

It should be up to the parents to monitor their kids, just like it always has been.

If you put the phone in a zip loc then you won't get the keypad sticky ... I would guess.

I am sorry, was your statement:

"We made it through WWII without texting" or was it, "We made it through WWII without cell phones"?

Cellular communications today, are directly based off the radio communications used for military and civilian of the past.

The telegraph was technically used before and during the Depression. Most of them had "keys" used to input information that required translation on the receiving end.

Early Telegraph:

We've just made it digital, and much, much easier. If you think cell phones just appeared out of no-where, you're wrong

If you recant your idiotic statement of "KIDS DON'T NEED CELL PHONES" to "SOME KIDS DON'T NEED CELL PHONES", i would probably assume you were less of a jerk.
