What was the hottest comic book of 2003? Not League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, not X-Men and not even Harvey Pekar’s American Splendor. Its Craig Thompson’s latest graphi…illustrated novel, Blankets. It’s the poignant autobiographical story of Thompson’s first real relationship with Raina, a girl from Michigan he meets at a regional church camp. To give any more of a synopsis would spoil the story. It’s not so much a story about Craig but it somehow relates to all of our first loves and our first...

I love Craig, I love his work, and I think Blankets is a pretty powerful statement! Always glad to see something in the industry get the widespread recognition it actually deserves. Rock and roll!

This guy is doing wonderful work, and everyone should check this out. I damn near cried reading it. Comics are so great these days....ahhhh. I think its interesting that he felt the story may have been too personal, his struggle with relationship/religion almost parallel my own; it was nice reading about anothers struggles. Im excited for his next work.

For sure, comics get a bad rap but you just gotta consider the effort that goes into producing them really.

I met Craig and talked with him briefly at MoCCA '03. This guy is incredibly humble and just plain nice. 'Blankets' is an incredible acheivement.

"Blankets" tore me up. I bought it as a birthday present for an ex, and then she ditched me the day I was supposed to give it to her.
I read it instead of returning it, like I planned, and it helped me get over the bitterness of her ditching me. I ended up giving it to her. We're best friends, and our relationship was a lot like the one in Blankets. I felt I had to give it to her.
But reading that was incredible. It is one of the better books I've read, really expressing what it feels like to be in love. It is epic, it is so isolated, it is omnipotent, it is not enough to keep friendships over distance.
I'm getting all choked up just thinking about it! Damn.

i loved this book, it reminded me so much of my first relationship in all its screwed up long-distance glory. probably one of the most engrossing and at the same time moving graphic novels i've ever read, if not THE most. craig thompson is such a talented storyteller. . . beautiful stuff.
