Some people choose the easiest path through life; David Belle prefers to take the most interesting. As the world's premier exponent of parkour, a physical discipline of movement that's as much a philosophy as it is a sport, Belle has carved a career out of taking the unconventional route.
The freeform method of getting around is based on techniques developed at the turn of the last century by a French navel officer called Georges Hébert. Belle's father picked up the baton laid down by Hébert,...
interesting interview. B13: Ultimatum is as good as the first movie. it's pretty cool to see protagonists who don't fit the clean-cut mold most movies stick to.
Glad I caught this interview-- I was thinking the District 13: Ultimatum was just a really late US release of the first film. Shows how much attention I pay to the movies playing here, despite working under the film umbrella. Likely going to be the very next one I see, particularly since the first D13 was so damn awesome. I'll even do my part to get all my friendly brethren out to see it as well.
Thought I saw David Belle in Live Free or Die Hard, but never checked the credits. I could also be confusing the movie for Transporter 2, in which IMDB credits him some stuntwork. I recall a metal room with some spinning fans or some shit, and maybe it was really cold(?).. Curious if anyone knows.
+ Loved his "adventure" terminology, and your insinuation toward childhood motives. I have similar non-linear walking desires on occasion as well.
Anyone know if the parkour group on this site is dead? Still have an application pending after about three months and noticed that there were only 25 members
I wasn't sure if there was enough interest on this site for that group. If anyone can't make it to that jam but is interested, there are some jams being held in Indianapolis, Indiana this year. There is one in May for sure. There will be at least one other but I can't remember the date for it.
If there is anyone in the Louisville area that is interested, contact me and I can give you some info to a pretty active group.
Haven't been to a national jam yet but from what has been described to me a lot freerunners get together and move from location to location practicing and learning all day. They last for the weekend so either the local runners put up everyone for the night or if there is a camp ground, might stay there.
Good way to meet new people and learn. Also cookout to end the whole event.
Most important thing that has to be done is the locals have to go scout locations and get permission to train there. Here in Louisville we can get away at the places we train for a little while before security makes us move.
