I wonder if we'll find out what, if anything, he's been writing all these years.

The man had a ton of good quotes.

"That's the whole trouble. You can't ever find a place that's nice and peaceful, because there isn't any. You may think there is , but once you get there, when you're not looking, somebody'll sneak up and write "...Fuck You" right under your nose."

According to a Washington Post story, he had written stories that were specifically meant to be published after his death.

Also, in reading it, I've heard of recluses, but damn.

Yeah, a friend and I went over this same curiosity as well. I imagine it's on par with Howard Hughes.

I also wonder, will his wishes to protect his books from ever being bought for film be compromised in time? I really hope not, I respected him so much for that.

I hope to God they don't translate his novels to film but I have a funny feeling that they will.

Re-read Catcher in the Rye. It's pretty much the most important passage in the book.

“I hope to hell that when I do die somebody has the sense to just dump me in the river or something. Anything except sticking me in a goddam cemetary. People coming and putting a bunch of flowers on your stomach on Sunday, and all that crap. Who wants flowers when you’re dead? Nobody,"

Salinger got me over some of my teen angst when I was younger, it put a lot of shit in perspective as unimportant.

I'm so saddened by his death. But very happy that his books will live on forever.

If they make a movie, it'll be awful. And everyone will think it is the greatest thing ever except for the people who actually read the book.

Anyways, I have my own image of what all of the characters look like...I don't want that to change!

RIP JD Salinger. Your books changed my life. I'm incredibly sad about his news.

Hopefully the movie rights stance will always be respected (who knows since Michael Jackson sold The Beatles' "Revolution" to Nike) but randomly, I always had a fantasy that had that wish ever been broken, River Phoenix would've been the best Holden. Dude's been dead a while so I can't imagine who could do it.

It always made me so happy to know that he was alive, for some reason. Franny and Zooey literally changed my life. I can't think of any other book that's had such a big influence on me.
