WHO was the guy who treated Glitter like it was Citizen Kane? My stuck-up inner hipster just burst into tears.
Not a movie, but a genre - most anime series. Bleach, in particular. I have now have THREE lovers who treated anime like the best thing to ever come out of Japan (eff that), but Bleach's definition of plot left me mentally gasping for air. I still have to be bribed or blackmailed into watching it.
I didn't get Burn After Reading, though.
He idolized Mariah Carey. It was cute. We were the odd couple. I wore darker colors that were mostly t-shirts and jeans and he dressed preppy, occasionally did drag, and was quite fem. And we argued over our quasi-punk/goth/whatever vs preppy-queer-boi styles often. He was adorable. But obviously misguided.
And I'll agree with you in the case of anime, though most of that falls into the "doesn't appeal". Serial Experiments Lain though....tried to watch a couple episodes of that once...went over my head like a satellite.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that doesn't see the humor or profoundness of these movies.
So, another person that didn't get the point of the thread?
The point of the thread was to discuss movies that went over your head or just didn't get. I don't understand what people saw in these were supposed to be wonderful movies, perhaps there was something I missed. I was simply responding to the general conversation of the thread.
Yeah, these posts have been bugging me. I don't "understand the appeal" of gun ownership, driving a pickup truck/suv without having something to haul, or dancing in clubs. I don't understand the appeal of movies like Britney Spear's Crossroads or Mariah Carey's Glitter (I only mention the latter because I dated a guy who treated it like it was Citizen Kane)
Whatever it was that made Napolean Dynamite a smash hit and made people treat Eyes Wide Shut as an intricate work of art are things that went over my head. I can understand the appeal of the movies, but the elements that made them successful were lost on me.
I apologize if this comes off snappish, I don't mean it to be. I'm not feeling well, so my wording may be harsh. Hopefully not.
OMG Napoleon Dynamite! Ive spent days trying to think of a movie that i didnt get but that my close friends did and this is one of them. I dont think i laughed once during that entire movie. I felt like a noob because all my friends were dying of laughter and i wasnt xD. Ya that movie was totally lost on me.
Another thing that i dont get, which is not really a movie but rather, an actor is Will Farrel. That guy is not fucking funny to me! In fact, i think he is the most unfunny comedian ever. Somehow people love this guy, but ive never found him at all amusing. /shrug

Not finding American Pie or Napolean Dynamite funny is one thing but not being capable of understanding the plot of such simple, linear stories is like USA Today level comprehension.
I totally agree.
There are a lot of people who read USA Today though.

Just to clarify, i understood the plot of napoleon dynamite. I just didnt find it funny in the least.
I know the feeling. Everyone was talking about that movie like it was the greatest comedy ever, and I think I laughed twice during the entire thing. Not to say it was a bad movie, or even unfunny, just that it didn't tickle my funnybone in the least.
Of course, my sense of humor largely swings towards the 'goofy' and 'over the top' side of the spectrum (although I do enjoy my dry intellectual humor as well). Kung-Pow will still reduce me to fits of laughter-induced hysteria every time
For more serious movies:
... (and this is totaly embarrassing)
I didn't 'get' "Easy Rider" at all! Call me names if you'd like, but the movie just did nothing for me. I just didn't connect with the story at all. It could just be that I need to see it once or twice more to grasp it, but it left me cold the only time I've ever viewed it.
