A rare few of us believe that a three hour Jungian hypnotherapy session is a good thing now and then, especially if it reminds us all how we all continually dilude ourselves about what really matters and what we are capable of.

Last night I exposed kharnalbloodlust to the pure joy that is a three hour p.t.anderson movie.

Thirty emo's agree: Magnolia is tragically good.

I caught it on TV recently....unfortunately it's one of those films where I think it needs the big screen epic sweep to really feel right.

Something about movies like that which are certainly flawed, but so ambitious that their flaws make them better. (I'd put Apocalypse Now in the same category).

And can we give it up for PTA's skill at making mediocre actors amazing? Tom Cruise? Adam Sandler in Punch Drunk Love? Sigh...

That deleted scene in Blade with the shrouded guy on top of the roof? That's better than anything P.T. Anderson will EVER do. And yeah, I know all about the rain frogs. wink

I loved Magnolia but think it would have been even more powerful if Anderson would have dropped 2 subplots and 30 minutes.

A definite favorite of mine. The Charles Fort references alone are worth the watch but there's so much under the surface, I still haven't deciphered it all yet... oh what fun! i think I'll go watch it again!

It does drift a bit in the middle-end, doesn't it? I've watched it enough times now (5? 8?) that I really feel it when it sags.

But hell, even Citizen Kane has a weak scene or two in it.

No, that's not true. Kane is perfect.

Whoohoo! I finally found other folks who like Magnolia! This is pathetic, I know, but the scene where they all sing made me weepy. Ever since that movie, Aimee Mann has taken up a semi-permanent presence in my CD player.

Best movie ever. I love the way the camera is always moving, always pushing in on these peoples lives. Besides making mediocre actors amazing, PTA is also good at letting amazing actors do amazing stuff. Look at Phil Hoffman, John Riley and William Macy. Their best roles, amongst all their outstanding performances, are their parts in Magnolia.
