Dita Von Teese is one of the world's most dazzling women. The Swarovski-adorned mistress of striptease has done more to preserve and promote the hallowed art of burlesque than any other performer alive today. Her sexy and spectacular shows feature stunning costumes and larger-than-life props, but are always grounded in the purity of the classic art form. Thus they have an innate dignity that never relies on the kind of bump and grind sleaze that many of Dita's contemporaries mistake for erotica.
Amazing interview! I'm a big fan of Dita's work and I loved reading about her thought-process and the work she puts into every aspect of her performances.
Interesting. Before I joined this site, I was only vaguely aware of burlesque, and didn't think much of it. I had no idea that there was such a person as Dita von Teese. I've checked out her site (the free parts, $20/month is too much for me) and I like what I see.
While it didn't come up in the interview, I did find an article on the Fox news site about her in which she says that about 80% of her fans now are female.
I found out some information I thought I'd share. A DVD of her performance at the Crazy Horse in Paris is available on DVD in France, it came out on Nov. 24, and you can find it here. Apparently, it's region-free, so most of us should be able to play it. Right now, it's selling for 19.99 Euros, which, last I checked was around $28 USD. Not including shipping, which would likely be steep if you're not in Europe. A US release for the DVD is forthcoming, but as far as I know, no release date has been announced.
Here is the page I found about it that links from the front page of Dita's site.
Edit: I just did some currency conversions and such through the French Amazon.com, and for me, including shipping, it would cost $40.99. Might be best to wait for the US release for those of us on this site of the Atlantic.
Excellent interview, She's one of my idols. Incredibly brilliant and amazingly gorgeous, two for one! I love it. I'm going to have to add her newest things to my collection! She's who got me to want to start corseting in the first place. <3
I have her first book which is essential if you're a fan...in that book she calls sweatpants 'The Enemy of Femininity'.....how right she is...coming from a lady who lives and breathes pure glamour!
But I loved the quote in the book about each and every piece that she's aquired and how she feels about them...I can relate to that on so many levels...
what a lady!
By the way,Sephora did a limited edition 'Crazy Horse Paris' lipstick..the same shade all the dancers wear....it is beautiful...I was lucky enough to get one...in a sale there...!
