Masturbating never works and I don't like pills or exercise. At least if I'm going to be awake ther should be some nocturnal activities I'll be amused with, but what?

Have you tried reading a book? Sometimes works for me. Especially if it's one I really want to read.

Drink something warm (NOT caffeinated) and read. Reading always makes me sleepy.

You might look at some sleepy time teas. They often have some Kava Kava and Valerian in them. That helps some people. Plus, it is just a relaxing practice to get into. Helps many people unwind. I'd do it a half hour to two hours before you want to go to bed. Good previous advice to read along with or after drinking tea. Another idea is to watch a movie you like, but have seen many times over.

I use a fan as well.

Pick an event in your life and try to picture it exactly as it happened. I have insomnia and it works for me sometimes. Don't pick a stressful event obviously or you'll have nightmares smile.

I usually find that when I have insomnia a well placed baseball bat upside my head will put me down, or send me to the hospital where I get sedated and can sleep better anyway. Seriously though, watch golf its lame, it put me down quick.

Sometimes a dose of Nyquil will do it if you just need something for occasional use.

I'm in love with my melatonin tablets. They aren't addictive, and they put me to sleep in about 20 minutes. I don't wake up "drugged", either.

If all else fails start jumping up and down on the bed till either you become very tired or your head manages to hit the ceiling hard and you knock yourself out. Either way you will wake up on the bed. Just make sure you set the alarm ahead of time.

I did this with Transformers: The Movie once and got a lot farther than I was comfortable with.
