Yeah, I'll hold a grudge, but I don't really think about it. Prime example. A friend asks me to design her a tattoo, then meet one lunchtime for a drink to discuss it. A few days previously, her house had been burgled, and I sat up on the phone for hours to keep her company?(my phone bill, not hers), not that I minded, because that's what being a friend's all about. The night before we were supposed to meet, she said she wasn't feeling too good, but should be okay for meeting, so next day, I get myself up early (it's a sunday and I'd normally be in bed till 1. I got up at 11 to meet her) I text her to see if she's feeling any better and still wants to meet. No reply. I shrug and walk myself down to the bar and wait. And wait. And wait. I texted her 3 times and tried calling twice to see if she was turning up, all with no responce. I wound up using the time to draw more butterflies for my girlfriend's tattoo, then had some lunch and went home once I was done. About a week later she emails to say she couldn't make it as she had flu. That kinda shit just pissed me off, and I haven't even bothered to tell her to go fuck herself, as it's too much hassle, but this is the 21st Century for fucks sake! People have cell phones! It is not difficult to tell someone you can't keep an appointment. This wasn't a date, so that's not what got me pissed, it was just the lack of courtesy to say she couldn't make it for a week after the event. A well deserving grudge, I think.

"The grudge doesn't consume the one carrying it. It sits in the subconscious. I don't think about my grudges until it's time to take 'em out and dust 'em off again. It's like having a multiple personality complex...that you can control. "

That is exactly it!!!

I hope so, I've spent a lot of time and effort perfecting my hatred for certain individuals. I'd hate to think it was anything less than time well spent.

Why hold a grudge when you can take revenge? internalizing a problem somebody else caused for you is giving them more credit then they deserve. They say an eye for an eye and pretty soon the whole world is blind, but why would I want somebody who took my eyes to have the priviledge of looking into my vacant and bleeding eyesockets. Karma's a lazy bitch and you'll most likely die before she gets off her ass to make things right.

The punishment should fit the crime, though. I hold the guy who boosts my car in a different caste than the jerk who borrowed fifty bucks two years ago and pretends it never happened. And I just plain wouldn't want to be the guy who threatens/harms my family or any of my friends.

Typically the grudge is reserved for someone you know and has either abused your trust, taken advantage of your hospitality or in some way caused you grief with malice aforethought. The individual who randomly picks you out of the masses to screw over isn't singling you out for any reason other than his own greed and desire to senselessly fuck up someone, anyone's day. In that respect, the one who goes out of their way to willfully abuse your personal connection to them is deserving of a more personal response.

Basicly, you hold grudges as long as they're working for you and against the other person. If you're hurting someone else by not speaking to them, keep it up. If you see someone you were pissed at a couple years ago, and they seem cool enough to say they fucked up, let it go, or you're just being an asshole.

And hey, fuck them, don't even bother to tell them you're holding a grudge. Don't blow up and scream at them, just stop speaking to them and slowly cutting them off...it's nice and cold, and more fun that way.

Oh, there are ways to get off my shitlist. Most offenses how an "escape clause" with me. Anyone who responsibly (key word there) exercises their grudge will allow for a little leeway. It's the ones who don't that give the grudge such a bad reputation.
