Better Than Chocolate was a pretty good one, and not just as whack-fodder either. It had a pretty decent premise that steered pretty clear of all the inherent stereotypes associated with this type of movie.

you should file that topic under the "why do dykes call themselves dykes" thread. id love to know why it sounds harsh to you.
I guess it's because I've heard so many use it derogatorily. I realize some may call each other that, the same way some black people call each other "nigger" or "nigga", and the same way some gay guys call each other "fag" (like my gay friends do). But, I still think it's sounds harsh. And I don't use it.
a lot of dykes call themselves dykes to make a really big distinction between them and the usually older, more conservative "lesbian" crowd, which in alot of ways has nothing in common with a lot of the dyke crowd expcept that they fuck the ladies.

im a lesbian and i will refer to myself or my friends as dykes....it is all in how it is said and by whom. If Jim Bob the gas pumper from the Ozarks called me that i would be pissed

Hard to say that many of the mentioned movies are classics. But with those criteria, I have to add Lost and Delirious.
Really? I hated Lost and Delirious and found it oddly homophobic.
How come? I thought it was pretty well handled.
I dunno, I felt like they punished the "real" lesbian for refusing to compromise her sexuality. But I could have just seen it differently, that was simply my interpretation of the message the film was trying to send.

i hate being called a dyke.
just like i don't like the word cunt. there's probably no logical reason, just makes my hair stand on end. could be because the only time anyone ever calls me a dyke is in a bad way, a very bad way.
maybe it's a perfectly fine word, but don't ever call me that.
i love sex monster, better than chocolate, and but im a cheerleader. ive seen part of kissing jessica stein and i liked it, but it came on tv, so i didnt really see the whole thing.

one of the very first things that happened to me in san francisco was meeting a bunch on dykes on bikes who were there for the pride parade.
i never in a million years thought that the t-shirt they gave me would offend anyone who didnt need a good offending.
some people are ok with it. just like some people call themselves fag or queer. they might even put it on a shirt. good for them.
doesn't give anyone the right to call me any of those things.
