I picked up "my less than secret life" on a whim when I was in barnes & noble a few weeks ago having never heard of jonathan ames. but I really did become quite the fan of his by the time I finished it...he is so funny, so interestingly self- depreciative. I had no idea SG did an interview with him; I actually googled his name to read more of his interviews and found this one. I loved reading about his relationship with his son, the pretty hooker who made him cum in his pants so he blamed it on a spilled mojito, sitting outside the swinger party with the mangina waiting for some girls to tag along with, how he becomes insanely boring around people he'd love to impress (I can relate to that), the whole crazy bitch julia incident...dude is just so out there and open. its like he can't help writing about the parts of his life most people would hide, even if it means he'll be embarassed about it later...like a forced catharsis. his recommendations have made me want to better explore terry southern. he also made me remember why I love being a new yorker.
oh, and if his tv show works out it'd be fantastic, particularly with a "playing thyself" sort of premise. jonathan is more interesting then anybody he could dream up.
