certainly not game changing or amazing, but i always love to see humans turn into something else, and have to pick parts of their bodies off. don't you just love when your beloved nails, skin and teeth become obsolete?
also, I like when characters i can't stand die ironic deaths.
I saw it over the weekend and I thought it was really, really good. I, too, am hoping for a sequel because of the ending. There is so much ground they could cover.
One of the comments that was made by an interviewee was if the prawn did come back, they didn't know if they (the prawn) would declare war. Realistically, they have every right to but they don't seem like the revenge kind of species.
My theory was that if there was a sequel, the prawn could just be coming back to get their people and leave but humans are such pretentious bastards that they automatically assume they are coming back for vengence. So they declare war first and inadvertently try to stop the prawn from saving their own people.
But of course, there are so many different directions the sequel could go if they make one.

I love your theory on the sequel, but at the same time, I really hope they just leave it alone. One of the things so refreshing about this movie is it wasn't a remake, a comic book, or a toy-line franchise movie. The writer/director had an original vision and it made money. Hollywood could learn a thing or two.
I went to the midnight showing on Thursday and to be honest I think it's kind of overrated. I didn't think it was bad, I just think that people are going crazy over it because it didn't suck like 90% of the sci-fi movies that come out this time of year. I don't think it was "game-changing" or "like nothing you've seen before" or "one of the best movies of the year". It didn't suck, admirable but not groundbreaking.
I think it's sad that this genre has been so neglected and pigeonholed that decent movies like District 9 are put up on a pedestal simply for not following the status quo. Even if it is one of the best sci-fi movies made in a while, that really isn't saying much.
I felt the exact same way after seeing the moon. District 9 was okay.Bit more of a popcorn flick with plenty of exploding humans. I don't think I'll remember much of the plot after a month or two.
