I have also been to a variety of strip clubs, have had many stripper friends, and I can say that for the most part they do get treated like crap. There are millions of strip clubs in the United States and beyond, and yeah, most of them are crap...they are strip clubs, people go there to go drool over the girls, they are sleezy guys. Granted there are a few clubs that are really upper scale and treat the girls well, they are few and far between. If a girl doesnt have a good head on her shoulders and can handle all the shit, then she shouldnt be a stripper and would never make it as one. I read over this thread, and many people think there have been broad generalizations, but there havent been and some people just dont like the truth sometimes, oh well....

No, you can't? You want to know why?

The plural of anecdote is not data.

On top of that, even if we WERE arguing just based on anecdotes along, you've just chosen to ignore all the ones that completely disagree with your experience.

Well, I consider my personal experience my own data. Not all strippers get treated like crap, but most sure do...and no , I havent ignored anything, I am just putting in my own opinion, I am allowed to do that.

No, most do not.

I know this has just been pointed out but I need to say it again: managers need to have their floor filled. They need to What they don't need is girls showing up late (or not at all). They don't need to hear all of the interpersonal problems between the dancers or any other work-related drama for that matter. They don't need girls who always feel life (inside the club and outside the club) is just unfair to them.

Now, there are different temperaments and personalities in both dancers AND managers but even with those differences I have seen one thing that stays constant: The girls who tend to claim that all managers are assholes and treat the girls like shit, are the same girls who create or at least contribute to the problems in the club.

Those girls are the ones that the manager has to come down on. What many do next is go to the locker room and start telling others about what an asshole the manager was and blah blah blah. Now the next girl chimes in with her "unfair" story and now the manager starts getting a really bad reputation from girls he/she had to talk to.

I really think you should hang out in the office some time say right when a shift starts and see what kind of bullshit they end up going through...the obviously fake excuses, girls not showing up, etc etc. Maybe you'd see they don't treat ALL of the girls like shit - mostly the ones who treat the job like shit.

People are allowed to disagree with you, just FYI.

No, my opinion is not wrong, because it is my opinion, and I base it on what I have seen with my own eyes, and the many people I have talked to in the industry.....
and yes, people are allowed to disagree with me, thats why their are opinions.

But how wide is your experience with the industry? How many thousands of strippers and strip clubs are there, compared to how many have you met/visited? To say many or most is inaccurate and decieving. Perhaps many that you have seen, met, or talked about have had the experiences you have described, but that in no way means that most in the overall number have. It is the same reason that news polls mean nothing. A small sample does not equate to anything in the larger picture.

I am seeing it like this scenario:

Parent: What's wrong, honey?
'Lil Kid: Everyone is mean to me at school.
Parent: So every single person you know at school is mean to you?
'Lil Kid: Well no.
Parent: But most everybody?
'Lil Kid: Yeah.
Parent: OK, so who are these kids that are being mean to you? What are their names?
'Lil Kid: Ryan.
Parent: And who else?
'Lil Kid: Just Ryan.
Parent: surreal

That's a broad generalization right there.

You've just called everyone who's ever been to a strip club ever a "sleazy guy."

That is wrong on so many levels, nevermind everything else you've been said.

Yes, sweetie, you are making broad generalizations - that's why people don't agree with your opinion.

I've been to clubs, always been a perfect gentleman, never drooled, had friends who were dancers, some who eveb liked the job. I don't think I'm a sleazy guy...

You do, of course, realize the irony of condemning the institution of women getting paid to take off their clothes on a website that pays women to take off their clothes?

What I think is sleazy is working a McJob for something like $9 an hour in less than ideal (possibly illegal) circumstances, read: exploitation that would make your head spin. Even if you work 40 hrs. a week, you're still not able to make ends meet...

Dancing affords many people a way of life that isn't like that and also the confidence to pursue other things in the process. There aren't many places that you can make $800+ minimum on a good night or $150+ on a slow night. Read, 5 hour shifts.

Have you ever heard of fantasy? lllusion? Gross generalizations are just that, gross.

I was just saying that in my experience, this is what I have seen. Im sure there are plenty of great people, who treat the girls decently, I know I sure as hell do. But some dont, and that is what ive seen, thats all. Im not condemning the industry, I think its great, and hell, if I thought I could do it I would, but its not for me. SO from what I see, since I have only seen and experienced a little bit, my thoughts dont matter...oh well, on to something else...

Geez. Individual experiences do matter, but you cannot take them and make inferrences about the entirety of a larger whole. Which is what you were doing at first. If you had started off with something like you wrote here (minus the self-pitying part), it would have been a helpful and useful addition to the conversation, giving an alternative point of view.

So we go from a "variety" of stripper clubs and "many" stripper friends to having only 'seen and experienced a little bit" and wonder why people accuse Wyldesage of making broad generalizations.

Duh, that's not a big leap to make on the part of the other's here. I agree that plural anecdotes do not equal data.

It seems that someone is once again guilty of making wild accusations based upon fictional data.

Sorry, but the truth hurts doesn't it?

No, what you have said was based on what OTHER people have told you. Please stop confusing this with personal experience. You have never been in a strip club from the business side of things.

Let's get this straight. You have only been told an opinion from one or maybe two dancers. Based on the generalization you claim they gave, I am gonna bet that they were problem dancers - whether it be they didn't follow the club rules, were full of drama, or both.

I am not giving this opinion based on what someone else has told me...or what I have heard about from ________, but on actual experience from being there inside a club when this shit goes on and seeing both the dancer(s) and the manager(s) dealing with it.

You know, that was my first thought reading all this... What dancer bitches about the job to the guys in the club? Being a buzzkill doesn't usually bring in better tips, unless the guy has some weird white knight complex and tips better for the dramatic recounting of the nefarious goings-on in the life of a ... dun dun DUN...Lady of the Night

i truly think some people are into that damsel in distress crap. it's beyond me why after a few times of seeing/hearing sleazy stuff you'd be compelled to continue to support something that's supposedly so terrible a majority of the time. but yeah. oookay. whatever

anyways, yeah. i think Pistolita has good advice.
