A friend needs to make a little money (who doesn't?). She's 18 and pretty cute, and not a lot of body modesty. She wants to try stripping, or "exotic dance." Seriously, this is her idea, not mine.
This is Portland, Oregon. Oregon works a little differently than the rest of the country. Here we deem nudity "expression", not "behavior." Expression is much harder to regulate than behavior, so as a result the girls dance full nude. Since touching is behavior, very little touching is allowed - no lap dances. It's a big industry around here, and many of the girls I've seen have great moves. From what I've seen it takes more than a willingness to take your clothes off - the girls in the clubs I've seen have some very smooth, polished routines.
So does anyone know how you learn to exotic dance around here? What clubs are best to break into the business? Pitfalls to avoid?
First you never want to start stripping until you understand the full process and the potential negative results. I have often seen valuable furniture ruined by amateurs.
If the OP's girlfriend wants to know about stripping she should ask. One must question how much of her becoming a stripper is his idea verses her idea.
My thanks to Paulnikon - the Strip Clubs of the World group was just what I needed. And thanks to Coyotemike and Invisible_man for some good chuckles.
I'm posting because she doesn't have a membership. I think I'll step out of the facilitator mode and buy her a subscription, so she can ask her own questions.
My personal method begins with making sure that the water temperature is just the right blend of hot and cold and then checking to see that there is enough soap in there.
It's pretty hawt.
Stripping is an ugly profession, i've been to strip clubs all over the country and other countries as well and one thing never changes, the customers treat the dancers like SHIT. The bosses care even less. If she doesn't care about that and doesn't mind complete strangers feeling her up (whether it's legal or not) then that could be the job for her. It's a rough life and only a select few can really pull it off.

i'm glad you are so informed, and i have a bunch of friends that would appreciate your input on their lifestyle and work choices.
oh, wait. i lied. you don't know anything about dancing in portland, so do us all a favor and go away.
if your friend really wants to start dancing, it's pretty easy. most strip joints in town hold auditions at least once every week or two, so you really just have to call them up and ask.
the problem she is going to have is that, as an 18 year old, she can work in an establishment that serves liquor, but she will be unable to give private dances (yes, portland has them, but they are still governed by the same rules as normal dancing) and will basically only be able to spend time on stage and in the dressing room.
there are some over 18 dance clubs in portland, but i'll be honest, i've never been to any of them.
what part of town is she looking to work in? portland is awash in strip clubs, so if you narrow it down, i might be able to help a little more.

No, customers don't treat the girls like shit - the assholes treat the girls like shit.
I guess I don't know enough girls who have worked at dives, or maybe I just haven't been to enough to see your generalization.

Yeah no, I for one, am a customer to strip clubs, and I can say that I don't treat the girls like shit...and the places where I go - I have never seen the girls get treated like shit...and if anything DID start get to the point where a girl was treated badly - the asshole was tossed out faster than I could blink.
Then again, I don't really go to shady dives when I go to a strip club.
The clubs where you can dance and be safe without having to hustle for dances and can actually enjoy dancing would be: Devil's Point, Sassys, Lucky Devil, maybe even Boom Boom Room and a few limited others.
I worked at Sassys for 2 years, and when I wanted to start dancing, I went to the bar/club, sat down for a drink, and watched the girls and people watched in the atmosphere for about an hour. When I found Sassy's, I knew it was chill.
