Gwen Cooper traded her ho-hum career as a policewoman to work as a professional alien catcher at Torchwood, an organization which legend has it is "separate from the government, outside the police, and beyond the United Nations." Eve Myles, the Welsh actress who plays Gwen, in turn, has traded her life in very legitimate theater for one in the warped and sexy science fiction universe.
I did not know it was because of her why Torchwood was set in Cardiff
I disagree about the comment of the audience wanting Gwen and Jack to get together, everyone I have spoken to loves Rhys and his relationship with Gwen, WARNING! Children of Earth related
Children of the Earth has already aired here in the UK - in fantastic HD if you had the kit to receive it. Top quality TV with an excellent story that just builds through the 5 episodes really well. If you are a fan...well I don't have to compell you to watch it. But if you have never watched - treat yourself - the story stands on its own OK.
As for Eve - she is a babe - and the Welsh accent is sooo sexy!
For all things Torchwood go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006m8ln BUT the BBC iplayer is only available in the UK.

I just finished "Children of earth" and it is amazing!! Even got my husband, who says torchwood is a frilly soap, to watch.
I have a huge crush on Gwen, (love the freckles and gap teeth) and i love her very real feeling relationship with her husband on the show.
great interview Nicole!! I really liked reading it.
I've been a Doctor Who fan since I was a kid (hiding behind the sofa from the Daleks!), but I have to say Torchwood kinda left me cold after the 1st series.... However.... I watched 'Children of Earth' when it was shown here in the UK and I have to say 'Wow!'.
It was a really good mini-series and the narrative (for an R T Davies story) was great. I've never been an RTD fan and felt his Dr. Who stories just got more and more ridiculous as the series went on. The best Dr. Who episodes have been written by Steven Moffat. 'Girl in the Fireplace' and 'Blink' being two great examples of how Doctor Who can be about well written characters and stories, and not just lots of running away and sonic screwdrivers. I have great hopes that the next series will be top as RTD has left and Steven Moffat has taken the reigns.
Anyway, the point is Torchwood, Children of Earth is well worth a watch even if you're not a sci-fi fan.
Rad! I had no idea that Eve was the reason the show is based in Cardiff! By that logic since Torchwood is in Cardiff b/c of the rift, obviously Eve is the rift itself (sorry couldn't resist being a slight geek).
Anyway great interview! Eve is right, series 3 was totally brilliant! If they don't get picked up for another series it will be a total shock.
I have to agree with everyone else also, the Gwen/Jack chemistry is awesome, but how could you not love Gwen's relationship with Ryhs, they're just so damned cute with one another.. I especially love it when her character is trying to be series and yells his name, totally adorable on Eve's part.
I agree with everyone. Torchwood series 3 is the best series yet. it genuinely is fantastic, even people who don't like torchwood, or doctor who will like it. its as much a political thriller as it is a sci-fi programme. And yes, Eve is ace, i agree with everyone on that one as well.
I've always found Torchwood to be a very spotty show. It has GREAT parts, but it's also very frustrating half the time, in the same way I find most television. Still, I have grown very attached to the characters and what it does well it does very well. I've only seen the first two episodes of this mini series, but so far it's been great.
