here's a dumb question (and i'm known for asking dumb questions). do you call members and sg's by their member name? how do you introduce yourself? do you give your real name? obviously, i have yet to meet anyone in person, so i do not know. and after you get over my initial dumb question, here's another.

what's your real name? (first name since i'm not actively planning on stalking anyone yet).

I tell people in person my real name, but I'll answer to my screen name as well. It's confusing since my screen name is a real name. However, I don't mention my real name on the site since it's spelled in a strange way and I do have a real life stalker.

At the one event I've gone to so far most people seemed to introduce themselves by thier real name, then say what their screen name was. I guess I would answer to either though, since I really like my screen name.

At the Madison Halloween party, we went back and forth all night. It was sort of confusing, but also very amusing in a drunken-nerd sort of way.

edited because I forgot not everyone belongs to the SGMidwest group. I am a dumb.

There's actually a group of us in the Twin Cities that gets together on a fairly regular basis. We have our core group of like eight, and then another half dozen that make it out when they can. Obviously we've begun to schedule most events around the staple group that hits up everything. No one can ever make every event.

I prefer to call people by their real names. It's to impersonal, in my opinion, to call someone by their screen name. But then again, not everyone is comfortable with that. Understandable. Everyone has their reasons. I usually tell people to call me by my real name instead of "neo" or "drunk"... so they typically choose to call me "ASSHOLE". Fucking pricks.

if i know the people well, i call them their real name, if i can remember it.
i respond to my real name, and my sg name...although i like my sg name better.
most people i've met respond to both. when they introduce themselves i usually hear something along the lines of...
"hi, i'm _____, ______ on the site."

just introduce yourself as your screen name first and then your real name second and say you can call me either if you prefer, if indeed you prefer that.

I personally feel kinda like a douche introducing myself as "Max16Characters" but it looks good on screen to it works.

Sorcha is another version of my real name (and a nickname in real life), so it really doesn't matter to me.

Personally, I've been using my screenname for so long, and it has enough sentimental value, that I actually tend to identify myself with it. And since I'm already used to answering to a few different names anyway (I go by my middle name, and some idiot decided to make my last name into a first name a few centuries ago), so I'm perfectly happy answering to Daevric.

Typically people will let you know what they want to be called, though. Of the people I met at the last event, by the end of the night, I was calling probably two-thirds of the people by their real name, and the others by their sn, depending on the person (and usually not because I just couldn't remember the other).

If it's a small gathering (like an SGPDX thing) I'll generally introduce myself by my real name. If I'm emailing another SG I'll use my real name. If it's a large event where I don't know some of the members, I'll introduce myself as Scylla.

It NEVER goes over well.

"Hey, I'm Scylla."
"Uh..."
"Scylla."
"S... sita?"
"... no."
"Seda?"
"S-c-y-l-l-a. Scylla."

A superintoxicated girl kept calling me Skyla (like Skylar minus the r) the other evening. Silly bunny.

hm. Im a Daniel as well. Usually, on other sites in the past, I used the name "Dan" so... Im not too fussed if people know my first name.
Besides.. if someone wanted to find my whereabouts.. anonimity is truly hard to maintain if an indivual is driven enough to find out more "info" as it were.
Besides.. I have guns smile heheh
