The Cove is a new documentary that exposes the horrific flipside of Flipper. Shot in the historic town of Taiji, Japan -- which is the birthplace of modern day whaling methods -- the film follows activist Ric O'Barry in his crusade to save the 2,000+ dolphins that are captured and/or slaughtered in a remote cove there each year.
Before O'Barry became an activist he was an unwitting beneficiary of the dolphin trade. A one-time dolphin trainer (the mammals are closely related to whales), O'Barry...
I have seen his work before this film. The work contained the Japanese fishing practice at the cove.
I had to turn it off. That is how deplorable the content is.
When are we going to learn?
I just don't see it stopping.
And I'm talking about all of; "It"!
You could fill the worlds stage.
Sting? Stiller?
Na, it's going to take a revolution.
Unfortunately, I just don't see it?
I guess I should revist this subject after the film has had a chance.

I saw the film a couple weeks ago. I've never been so upset and angry because of a film like this before. It's absolutely deplorable that Japan still allows this practice.
The film is deeply disturbing. It is odd how a practice can seem mundane and commonplace to one group of people, yet appear horrific to another. Cultural gulfs are pretty extreme at times.
That the slaughter was 'suspended' this year due, it seems, to the extensive press coverage. Hopefully the suspension becomes permanent and we can get on to other issues
Shark Finning
Reef destruction
Whaling in general
Overfishing
Invasive Species
Plastic pollutants
