Sorry to crosspost this (from the Feminists group) but I feel like people should know about this.

Bacardi knows what women need to look pretty: uglier friends

I thought this had to be a joke at first, but it's not. It's a campaign advertising the "Ugly Girlfriend" that apparently every woman should have. Each ad describes a potential ugly girlfriend, along with a clearly photoshopped picture of a woman attempting to make her look "ugly". It includes such statements as:

Daisy is perfect for BBQ with friends. The aquiline nose and tangled eyebrows will make you the most desirable piece of meat around the grill. watching your weight? One look at the pimpled shoulders, and your appetite is gone!"

Yes, they seriously just said "piece of meat".

And:

"Feel like getting wild in that upcoming summer fiesta? Wendy is the right accessory for you! Including horse-like features, a noticeable limp and super active sweat glands! Dance the night away, shaking that steaming booty of yours."

So not only is it incredibly misogynistic, it's ableist too!

The other two descriptions read as follows:

"Upgrade your trips to the beach with Sally - 97 kilograms of femininity, strength and double chins. No tire can disguise the lumpy rolls decorating that body. Look your best in a bikini, without ever visiting the gym!"

"Lucy's rubbing thighs, magically combined with a sticking our jaw and drooping breases, will turn any trip to the mall into an unforgettable experience. Shop like never before, with your own freckled pile of cellulite!"

The site description even reads as "Get an Ugly Girlfriend".

This has to be one of the most disgusting and sexist ad campaigns that I've seen in awhile. If would encourage anyone who is as outraged as me to write to Bacardi telling them that this is completely unacceptable. This is the contact information I found:

Bacardi U.S.A., Inc.
Consumer Services
2100 Biscayne Blvd.
Miami, FL 33137
Toll free: 1-800-BACARDI
www.bacardi.com
They have a feedback form on their website, as well.

I thought at first that it couldn't be but the fact that they have a whole website around the campaign seems to say otherwise. blackeyed

It's astonishing that nobody involved in the creative process thought, "You know, this might not be a good idea."

What an odd, odd ad campaign. I can't imagine who they're aiming this at.

I have to give them credit for pairing an offensively bad ad campaign with an offensively bad site design.

Wait, seriously (and without meaning offense to anyone who isn't an idiot and does because I just don't think I know them) but who the fuck drinks Bacardi at all?

yeah they're called Breezer Sluts where I'm from. typically they're about 15 years old and have sex with anyone who will buy them a Bacardi Breezer. this is a serious problem, I wish I were kidding.

A 20-something year old guy friend of mine does, who's straight, but never gets laid. I wonder why...

Normally I consider myself a Bacardi girl, but I don't drink the breezers. (Bring on the hard stuff!)

This has to be a joke. Websites have been built around similar stupid things. I think maybe someone just took their ad campaign a little too far.

It's SUCH a horrible joke though. Like as a joke it isn't even funny, and then they just went and made it sexist and offensive.

I don't get people who think that, either! As if it's not normal for women to hang out with a group of women with varying degrees of attractiveness. Just because I'm hanging out with someone who is prettier/less pretty (which, obviously, is completely subjective) than me doesn't mean one of us is trying to impress anyone, right?!
