no love for bloody marys?

i was on a cruise 2 years ago. they were cheap. the bartender made them strong. i fell in love.

Bloody Marys are a gigantic pain in the ass at a private cocktail party in someone's home though. A home bar is unlikely to have all the ingredients. Plus they're a morning drink and traditional hangover cure.

A Hendrick's martini, dirty, is pretty much the best possible cocktail party drink, if you can stomach martinis.

Oh! I almost forgot!

HUGE shout-out to all my SG homies that like dirty martinis. I always order 'em "as dirty as you can make it and still be a drink and as many olives as I can get away with.

Mmmmmmmmmmm. That's the ticket. Warm toastiness awaits and just remember not to talk about politics or religion. wink

You should try a muddled olive martini. You've got to go to an old man bar to find someone who knows how to make them, but instead of just pouring in a little of the olive juice, you have the bartender muddle up a couple of olives really well add it to the drink before they stir it (or shake it if you please). When they strain the ice they strain the bigger olive bits out. You end up with something that looks like pond water and tastes like heaven.

Yep, I've only ever had muddled martinis that I made myself. As a former bartender, I will probably go the rest of my life without ever asking another bartender to muddle something. I especially hate making caipirinhas. (sp?)

That's why I drink at old man bars. Old man bartenders don't have anything else to do.
