Anyone else watch the first episode tonight? I'm still on the fence as to how he'll do, but hey, Conan didn't exactly have a whole lot of fans when he first started.

Although, nice choice for the house band...

Yeah, but Conan was an unknown when he started out. He also had virtually no on-air time. He was a writer, not a tv personality.

Jimmy Fallon is an actor, with several years experience. He's had major motion pictures under his belt along with a prime spot on SNL....and he STILL sucks.

Just saw the skit with Robert De Niro and he still can't hold his smile during a scene.

I'd be inclined to agree, but look @it this way...the younger crowd catching the show, curious about the band, who then does more research, gets an album or two...it's good exposure.

I'm not exactly complaining, just curious. Doesn't this get in the way?

Then again, I think their last two albums pretty much didn't sell.

The whole show was one product placement after another. They even whored out Justin Timberlake to Bud Light Lime. Conan wouldn't have stood for that.

I thought using The Roots as the house band was a bit odd as well, but the "slow jam news" was a great feature, hopefully they'll keep that up.
The Jimmy and DeNiro segment was weird and unfunny, but Justin & Jimmy were great together as usual.
Hopefully Jimmy will hit his stride. I think he's more cut out for this than acting.

so I read that they are making the roots write original music for the show instead of playing their own old stuff. something about music rights costs and such

The funny thing is that the same people at the top of the ownership pyramid for almost all of their albums are almost the same people who own Late Night. All but the first Roots albums came out on Geffen or Def Jam, which are both ultimately owned by Vivendi SA. Late Night is owned by NBC, who are a subsidiary of NBC-Universal, which is partly owned by Vivendi (along with GE).

Crazy-go-nuts!

Fuckin' ay. I hadn't really thought about how that was what he always did back on SNL. What the hell was even the point of that Space Train skit? It was probably the low point of the show.

I enjoyed myself overall though. It wasn't great, but we can't expect it to be. I quite liked the Slow Jamming the News segment. Lick it for Ten was garbage, unfortunately. It possibly could be interesting if they had them lick something gross rather than shiny new plastic!

I thought this show would come and go without me tuning in ONCE. but that plan went down the drain the second I saw that Tina Fey was going to be on tonight.

wasn't my cup of tea! I don't wish the guy ill will or anything; his show could stay on forever for all I care. but I was just counting down the minutes until I could pop in my Crocodile Dundee DVD and be entertained by the smooth "fish out of water" antics of Paul Hogan! oi!

I guess the new key demographic of his show are 12-17 year olds.

Kewl lets lick stuff! Boo. I say everyone give him time to grow in.

But so far I hate the skits.

Meh... he's no Conan O'Brien, that's for sure. If Conan wasn't moving to The Tonight Show, I would be pissed.

But, since I will get my Conan in May, Jimmy's alright.

The show with Cameron Diaz and Billy Crudup was great, but just like Justin Timberlake, they're people he is friendly and/or has comedic chemistry with. Conan was able to be funny with anybody.
Jimmy still scores high in adorability though.
