Mindless creative time wasting on Facebook!

God damn it! Yestrday i spent most of my working day pissing about on Facebook! I had loads of stuff to do in my studio..... printing t-shirts, doing some designs, peparing a workshop for local kids about mural painting..... some pretty creative stuff, but i just wasted the day farting about!

Now, i'm all for a bit of Facebook, i think it's a good social network which can help you communicate with long lost friends from college etc..... i even use it to promote a local bar that i work in, it's a live music venue which has live music on 7 nights a week!

So yesterday, inbetween some promoting for the bar, and feeble attempts at some design work.... i let myself fall into the viscious trap of time wasting! Don't get me wrong, i had some awesome fun which involved creating my own band, album and album artwork by using random quotations and images from Wkipedia and Flickr! If you are on Facebook, check it out! It's this thing called "What would your own album look like if you were in a band?"

This was the result of my time wasting!



I thought it was pretty cool, and so sent it out on Facebook to see what results my friends could create! Once their images were complete, there then began an afternoon of online chat and piss taking out of each others album covers! It seemed like everyone else who had work to do, couldn't be bothered, and were more interested in concieving their first album and it's artwork! This made me feel a bit better about my lack of motivation towards my own work, and felt pretty smug at the fact that i was self employed and could get away with wasting company time!

If you're not on Facebook and fancy a go at some mindless creative time wasting, then follow these instructions..... it's a blast, and some of the results can be quite amazing!

1 - Go to Wikipedia. Hit “random”
or click http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first random Wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.

2 - Go to Quotations Page and select "random quotations"
or click http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four or five words of the very last quote on the page is the title of your first album.

3 - Go to Flickr and click on “explore the last seven days”
or click http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days
Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

4 - Use Photoshop or similar to put it all together.

I hope you have as much fun as i did, even though i am now well behind with my work! I think it was quite a nice self indulgent sacrifice!
