I acquired an iTunes gift card, so I went online on my laptop and downloaded a few things. When I went to sync my phone, it prompted me to download and install the new update. After waiting forever because my comp is slow, it said it couldnt update because of an unknown error. I said screw it, wont worry about it. but now my iTunes says it has detected that my phone is in recovery mode, and needs to be restored. I tried restoring it, also says cant restore because of unknown error. My phone itself now wont do anything but have a picture of a usb cord going to iTunes and slides for emergency calls. nothing else. Has this happened to anyone? Is there a way to get it fixed? I tried shutting off and starting, and i've tried resetting by home/on button simultaneously. nothing seems to work.

so, I think I got it figured out...if you shut off your phone, and hold the home button while plugging the usb cord (which is already attached to comp) it forces it to recovery mode, then the restore worked for me...just sucks, I lost all my apps! I gotta remember now which ones I had and redownload them.....

Well, he hooked it up to his computer. I guess that's technically a "hook-up."

Did you learn a valuable lesson about backing up your applications?

I didn't see anything about backing up apps on the apple support, just backing up the phone. I was glad to find though that when I redownloaded my apps it didn't erase some of my information, like my petscare app. It saved all the information I had about my Duke... blush
