Yeah. It looks hilarious not to mention hot girls and nazi zombies. Seriously, what's not to love?

I honestly cannot fathom the over-the-top zombie fetish that the (predominantly) white, fe/male, 18-35 bracket is preoccupied with. What's the story here? What is so goddamn fascinating (ironic?) about zombies? confused

The fact that they are Nazis.

Oh. Okay. Nazi zombies. Not like that hasn't been done before. That still doesn't excuse the fact that it's a low-grade film w/bad make-up & special FX (like all zombie films, really). And the fact that it's a foreign film and a Sundance selection doesn't excuse the film either.

All I want to know is why are these films so well-liked by a certain segment of the population (a segment which I equate w/the majority of the members of this site)?

Personally if the movie was made in a high budget format it would be a huge turn off for me. The fact that it is low budget while making fun of itself and hitting a ton of genres (hot girls, zombies, nazis, cabin in the woods) is appealing and smart to me.

I don't know if the majority of people on this site like zombies. If so I blame Bruce Campbell.

I was unaware that all movies had to have some deep dark meaningful story to be popular.

Films don't have to have a deep dark meaning to be popular, and it's perfectly okay to laugh, all I'm asking for is a decent, calm, rational explanation for the preternatural fascination with zombie films by the 18 - 35 demographic in the last few years or so. If I knew why, then maybe I wouldn't have the disdain for these films that I do.

I haven't had coffee yet but here I go.

Obsessions with zombies date back to Ishtar and populations tend to become infatuated with them during times of unrest, war, or massive social change because, "they signify the end of the world as we know it". During the 20th and 21rst century zombies became a genre that opened back up and I feel a total pop icon of the past 50 years, why? Because everything is in massive rehaul with the use of technology etc and the people of our generation have grown up during that period of change where zombies are a symbol.

Whatever. Thriller is the shit.

Zombies are simple. Anyone can become a zombie. They could be your neighbour. Or your friends. Or your family. They're not all fancy and snobby like vampires (the appeal of which I never really get). They're the fictional embodiment of the basic desire to feed. Single minded, unstoppable eating machines. No annoying inner turmoil. No bothersome conscience. Just pure appetite. That's what makes them fun.

It's a horror genre. Some people like vampires, some people like masked killers, some people like killer clowns from outer-space and some people like zombies.
