so, providing i have a ride, tomorrow morning will be the third time in a week that the same auto place will be replacing the same tire...a little much dont you think? if they are such specialists then why does every tire they put on go flat? i want to know. yea, i know i shouldnt go back there, but i am SO broke, and the tire is still under warranty so the fixing is free. i fucking hope to god that this time they get it right...meanwhile they should be obligated to come over and entertain me since due to their mistakes i came to anywhere tonight. hurumph...

oh, sorry about the potty mouth...

it could be a problem with the axel if the same tire is continually becoming flat.

Check your driving routine. You could be driving over the same sharp object every day. I know it sounds stupid, but it's possible.

No. Unless your axle is in shards & said shards have punctured your tire.

Now, back to the original question. Is it a bit much? I wonder about the condition of your rim. Assuming it's a brand-new tire each time with solid beads, if those beads don't seat properly--voila! instant leak. Come to think of it, I wonder if it's good old-fashioned operator error (tireman, not yours--unless you drive over those "SEVERE TIRE DAMAGE" spikes for fun).

Either that or they're just patching your tire instead of actually replacing it (yeah, I don't trust auto shops much)...

Have they checked to see if your rim is slightly bent? That sometimes won't let the bead seal and you get a slow leak...also tire patches and plugs can leak as well, even when done properly.

well a bent rim could be a possibility...but whatever it is it couldnt have come at a worse time. im still trying to scrounge up just enough money to get my family gifts that dont come from the dollar store. and if it is the rim then i would think that the "experts" would have seen that and told me...

i dont hate people...i just hate people that dont do the job that they are paid to do. someone give me a story of their own. i need cheering up. frown

Naw, unless a rim is bent pretty blatently, mechanics just think the tire has an off balance spot when they try to balance it, which almost all tires do, which is why they have wheel weights and balance calibration machines. So the tire will balance and ride fine, but still have a slow leak due to a bad seal.

Hang on, if they are alloy wheels you could have a microfracture and that is hard to notice from a mechanics point of view.

OK, it is very very unlikely you will get 2 bad tires in a row, let alone 3.

So there are a few possibilities:

A) the guy dosen't know how to operate the tire machine and is tearing the bead each time (unlikely 3x in a row)

B) your rim has bad sealing surfaces (meaning rusty, damaged or bent)

C) your rim is a pourous casting (this only applies if it is aluminum and not steel)

D) you have a defective valve stem or loose valve core.

I'm going for (D). Have the mechanic replace the valve stem while the tire is off. It should only cost you 2 bucks or so additional. Make sure he tightens the core in the stem.

Good guy that Stiles is.
