My goodness, what a tempest in a teapot we have here. I have been a member of AA/NA for a few years (yes, a sober member) and speaking specifically from the AA standpoint and I quote from the 12 traditions of AA "Our public relations policy is based on attraction rather than promotion..." While I can only speak for myself, a recovering alcoholic/addict, I think that there are quite a few examples of what recovery can do right here in SG. And it does surprise just a little bit that anyone should have to defend their right to lifestyle here, no matter what it is.

That's great! And you are probably right.
And it does surprise just a little bit that anyone should have to defend their right to lifestyle here, no matter what it is.
I don't think anyone will argue that point but I don't think that's the issue here. By posting this saga as a newswire story he's opened himself up to a lot more scrutiny and criticism than if it were something more personal like a blog post -- I know I would have had a much different response if I had even seen it at all.
Furthermore, this column seems to directly contradict "Our public relations policy is based on attraction rather than promotion..."
I don't think anyone is taking issue with someone's fight against addiction or a lifestyle of sobriety but, rather, the fact that this column seems to apply a single perspective to everyone's lifestyle.
