I just heard about this and had to share my wild excitement somewhere.
It's being written by David Eggers, and apparently a novel, by him, re-imagining the story, will be released at the same time. And it's directed by Spike Jonze.
So basically, my favourite author and one of my favourite directors got together to make a movie of my favourite childhood story. I am so fucking pumped!
I couldn't find a trailer but here's a photo:
And here is the imdb link so you guys don't think I'm just making this up due to lack of supper.
In the most recent issue of Rolling Stone, Jonze said that he screened the movie for Maurice Szendak (sp?) and he was pleased with the film. I'm cautiously optimistic.
I heard that Karen O is doing the music! I hope so much that it is good, I love that book so much. I didn't know David Eggers was involved though. That is awesome, he is so good!
I wonder if the movie will capture the book how I remember it from when I was a child. The one thing that sticks out in my mind about the book is the last line, referring to his supper, was, "And it was still hot". ( Which is kind of funny since although I liked the book, it wasn't my favorite that I would want read every night.)
