This past summer I had the honor of marrying two couples, lesbians and gay men, and when we were reading the vows we could not stop crying because it was so beautiful that these people were finally able to celebrate their love and become joined in the eyes of the law.

It humanized the struggle for me immensely. Before, I had been fighting the fight of marriage equality with a lot of anger and rage at the way that the government wanted to treat us as second class citizens. After performing the ceremonies it was as if I was able to return some of the humanity lost through the ignorance and homophobia of others. It was profound and life changing.

This was why Proposition 8 passing hurt so badly. We must do everything possible to repeal Prop 8, in order to return our own humanity, not only ours but to the ones who wish to take it away.

Everyone should be trying to do something to repeal Prop 8. It's not just about gay marriage, it is about the idea of equality. It's all about fairness.
