There are parts of me that want to watch this film. Then there is that large part of me that dislikes Tom Cruise in the role. Maybe it is his dumping of Nicole. Maybe it is his startling lack or Asian-ness. Maybe I just don't like Tom Cruise very much. Either way, I have pretty mixed feelings on this one.

Believe me...he plays the part very well...very very well.

My friend didn't want to go because he hated Tom Cruise but he liked it a lot.

I can't wait to see it. I remember in July on the Today show they had this super sneak preview and my god it looked killer then. I love movies about china and Japan from that era. Like Anna and the King, while that was set in Siam, but Asian Countries I mean. And Seven Years in Tibet. Those movies are awesome.

I wanna see it myself however I just saw a couple of samurai films from Akira Kurosawa: "Seven Samurai" and "Yojimbo". After seeing those 2 amazing films I have very high expectations from "The Last Samurai"

This is what's keeping me from seeing it. That and being charged $14.00 for a movie. I'm more deserving of being a samurai than that short white guy...

I think I saw a trailer for it before Kill Bill, which is the greatest irony imaginable.

hmm. A while ago the fact that cruise is in it would have turned me away, but he did pull off a decent performance in magnolia, so I can't say that's the reason....

i might not go to see it simply because i've seen kurosawa's Ran. it's hard to imagine that the last samurai would be able to touch that level. i don't know if i'd be able to give it a fair shake.

the seven samurai was a great film, but Ran is a masterpiece.

Ran is one of my favorite films.

I'm going to watch this Last Samurai movie tomorrow.

Hopefully it is not terrible.

Tom Cruise doesn't not pretend to be a Japanese in this film. He plays the part of an American soilder.

Yeah I somehow doubt it's going to be the next Ran, but at long as it doesn't completely buttfuck Kurosawa's corpse I'll still check it out. Just because it isn't the best doesn't mean it can't be pretty good.

I'm very excited about this film. I don't know if it's based on a real character but the theme is very similar to the story of Frederick Townsend Ward. He was an American soldier of fortune that became a warlord and general in China in the 1860's. Not quite the same but still interesting.

I'm not a Cruise fan at all but I'll still see it.

Trust me, there is no way that Tom Cruise can pull a performance that comes anywhere close to "The Seven Samurai" or "Yojimbo." I'm a huge Kurosawa fan, so I'm biased, but hell, it's Cruise.

Maybe you need to excercize your logic muscle more. I might not agree with him, but it's certainly logical.

Me, I can't see this movie because I refuse to knowingly give money to scientologists.

Tom Cruise is a scientologist. Who doesn't know?

but if people stopped giving money to scientologists, we wouldn't have such bafflingly excellent movies as 'battlefield earth'
