Complaining about the lack of music on MTV is so 10 years ago.

I don't think "MTV" means anything any more, but is one of those corporate names that used be be an acronym and mean something, but is now just a name.

if it meant "music" than MTV Music would be repetitive. and TV can't mean "television" because that's on the internet. What the fuck does it stand for?

. . . 10 ???

I wish.
You need to go back 20 years, at least, to recall that golden era when it was still hip to complain about MTV not playing music anymore.

Why would MTV show music? If that were a marketable venture. Fuse and IMF and MTV2 would have taken off.

How could a music television station succeed in the era of the internet? It's virtually impossible. MTV probably made the best decision it could given the circumstances. Evolve or perish.

20 years ago they played lots of music. It was almost entirely music, in fact, until 91-92, when Liquid Television and the Real World premiered. The success of those shows (and their spinoffs) created a downward spiral for the playing of actual music videos, culminating in the launch of MTV2, which originally played music 24-hours a day, frequently without VJs. Incidentally, we can also all blame the Real World for bringing on the plague that is "reality TV."

The "M" is there to remind you of the "Mute" button on your remote, I think.

What seems so especially, terribly ironic is that both of those shows were actually really *good*, and yet have wrought so much crap. The path to hell and so on and so forth.

That one still amazes me. They made a separate station specifically for music videos.... and now it's just more reality TV.
